Though we think it is mean to hurt a friend like that, sometimes someone telling us that there are others who are going through life and death situations may make us feel bad at the beginning but later gives us strength to fight our situation. Unpopular opinion: It's hard watching a person you used to date, who you are still in love with, get married to someone your ex had only met about a month prior. Rachel wasn't comparing her misery to anyone else, and it would be hurtful to anyone in that situation to have their feelings thrown back in their face like that and then mocked for reacting emotionally to it.

I agree. But I think that people end up having this reaction about Rachel because even when the problem was not so relevant, she would still do drama. And of all the characters, she is the one who always cares about herself, even if she needs to sacrifice her friends. As was the case when she was interested in that guy and forced everyone to pretend they were having a party. And although Ross's attitudes can be questioned, everything about their relationship revolved around her.
