On the plus side I got a Korg Kross 88 with travel case for a whopping 50 USD. The young lady was told it needed a new "motherboard" by local repair so she parted with it for a real piano. I went home, intuitively assumed a possible hairline crack on a pcb may be the issue (was geeking out, playing 20 notes at once all over the place etc). I propped it on my leg thinking it may be bowed.. Turned it on and it plays as if nothing happened. It's huge, but it's a labor of love.

I have no idea why, but my version one JUNE-60 first sounded terrible, but after removing it and trying for a second time with different cables, Behringer Model D synth and in stereo mode, it sounds really pretty now. My System-8 has a digital emulation of the Juno-60 chorus and that sounds equally good or even better, but comparisons are always dependend on multiple factors like output leves, wetness etc. If somebody wants to get rid of his JUNE-60, I would be happy to take it.

Since all the "magic" of an analog bucket brigade delay is in the pre- and post- filters required to make it work, at this point a much better recreation of a known quantity chorus effect would be to use a DSP with a bit of careful filtering applied to the processed signal.
@sweeterthananything2 жыл бұрын
indeed there have been very good recreations of BBDs in DSP for quite a while - line 6 DL4/echo park are quite old now for example, and i use digital BBD recreation effects pretty often. but there is a final 0.05% sprinkling of extra magic working with good analog delay/chorus/flanger effects sometimes. i'm not an engineer but you may be on to something in that TC/behringer would be better off with DSP than with their in-house BBDs, but at the same time, roland-boss has been able to credibly recreate their dimension chorus effect in both the digital CE-20 multi-chorus and analog DC-2w using Xvive drop-in replacement MN3007 chips. so it may come down to behringer wanting to use their vertical production chain instead of Xvive. i've heard plenty of great effects using CoolAudio BBDs, but i can't recall any of them having been supposed to recreate a specific vintage model effect except in the vaguest of terms.

What a well done and informative video on chorus. The June-60 v2 is a disappointment. It’s as if the mod depth of the LFO on the delays is too high or something. You can hear the LFO slam up against a wall when it reaches its peaks. Roland’s Zencore emulations of the JUNO chorus sound better. Roland would probably make a killing if they made a Juno Boss Waza Craft pedal. Even with an absurd price tag. It sounds really good on guitar and bass in mono though.

Great review. Thank you. Unfortunately this is a half baked product as most are that come from Behringer. The VP330 recreation was also a disappointment. Incredibly thin string section showing the same exact artifacts as this chorus. I took it apart and right away noticed the problems with their choice of capacitors and resistors in the audio path besides the implementation of digital circuitry in the chorus section where you got dropouts depending where you were on the tone scale. I’m so surprised that a company which claims to have the expertise is providing products that fall short. One of of those days I will design a chorus effect with all possible parameters exposed based on the one from Eminent 310 string synthesizer. I wonder if there’s a market for such a thing and what is the price point people are willing to pay. Again, thank you for the detailed and professional review.
