Love the SCF and I have an original. The flanger part of it is particularly good. I know that everyone wants it for the Eric Johnson and JP chorus sounds, but I think the Flanger on it is the real standout for clean flanger tones. Put it on flanger mode and then a Roland Space Echo or Volante after it and you've got an amazing 80's Post-Punk/Goth Rock guitar sound similar to The Cure, The Mission, Siouxsie and the Banshees or The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary. I'm glad to see you got an original one. It would be great to see a video comparison of this against the current reissue from the unspeakable company that bought TC electronic. I think your clean Rockman sound with the SCF and H3000 micro pitch detune plus a dual delay with the TC 2290 sound playing the same Heaven Above main melody riff would sound fantastic layered underneath the main distorted riff!

That 80s clean section is very close to some 80s Dann Huff tones. Good to hear that this has some of the TC 80s rack unit magic in a pedal format. I'm interested in picking up the reissue. This would get into super 80s territory with the DBX 160 compressor!

@marcofioravanti41762 жыл бұрын
I never get tired to mention, that this is one rare kind of unit, which has an input impedance to line drive an old, passive Fender Rhodes piano cleanly & with relatively low noise. Generally an adjustable preamp is a plus on an effect pedal, even when those preamps are always very different to each other.. Dommage: The SCF is making stereo by flipping the phase in the other output like many other "guitar"stereo chorus pedals - hence no mono compatibility in direct studio recordings. Don´t know about two mic´ed speaker cabinets..(*) But used straight in mono the chorus/p.m./flanger sounds quite well, too. (*) In studio, one could "delay" one output for about 30ms with one 100% wet single delay line (like a fake double tracker), and preserve modulation, but then you´ll have to deal - in mono - with those narrowed double attacks sitting upon each other all the time. Sometimes that might turn out ok - or maybe even great - though. You´ll always have to check out & decide... A "MONO" button in reach is a valuable thing to have in the studio.

Great stuff as always Leon! A friend of mine owns the reissue model of this pedal and it's really tough not to clip the input stage, even with the input gain set to 0. Doesn't matter if in the loop or into the amp. 9V just doesn't give you the same headroom as 110V/230V/240V i assume. Something to keep in mind for the folks that got their GAS activated by this video haha

What’s running into it? I’ve had the reissue for a few months now and find the opposite to be true in my experience (it never clips). The one exception being when my fuzz face volume and gain is on 10 and even then it doesn’t really happen. Just saying, maybe a faulty unit or something to look into?
@aaaargl2 жыл бұрын
@@adrianr2312 interesting. as stated i tried multiple positions on my friends board (not my unit). The only way to not make it clip was an EQ in front with a -12dB level reduction. Still sounded like it should though, so pretty sure its fine. Especially because i experienced similar things with lots of Chorus-pedals. Even the Chorus-Toneprint on the Flashback Delay i own clips, whereas everything else runs smoothly (except the footswitch, that is)

I enjoyed your video on the SCF. I have an original SCF 1st gen pedal. I was using it but recently picked up a vintage TC 1210 which I run in parallel (with kill dry on the 1210) so I removed the SCF. Also, when I was running the SCF post pre-amps, I just couldn’t get enough headroom (though yours sounded perfect in that configuration--how did you avoid clipping?). I also have a vintage CE-2 from the ‘80’s but it’s not being used at the moment as my rig is stereo. Would love for you to include the TC 1210, CE-2, SCF, Dimension D & Electric Mistress in your shoot out. Also, could you please give us the signal path from your video on the SCF? What are you using for detune and where in the signal chain are you putting it relative to the SCF. I find that when I run them in series, it’s just too “washy” (though your signal sounded great) so lately I’ve been running them in parallel. My rig is full stereo/dual mono (often two different pre-amp’s L/R) so sometimes I’ll feed one channel to the 1210 and the other to Pitch Detune and then mix the stereo returns from each with the dry stereo signal.
@LeonTodd2 жыл бұрын
I'd so love to grab a 1210 at some point. The detune I added in post once everything was recorded with a roughly 40/60 wet/dry mix.

Chorus and Flanger with this pedal seem to have some subtlety and not getting in the way of your tone. But, it doesn't get too dramatic effects like when you play "No more tears" it's not as brutal as with a Boss (whatever model), or the flanger doesn't get as seasick as an MXR with the regenaration low as Lita and Ozzy "Close my eyes forever" guitar sound. You have to check out MXR Micro Chorus that's around since early '80s, I think. Very good analog thick sound. Richie Faulkner has one always on before his amps!

Please note that this is not a criticism of this KZbin channel, just something we decided it's fair to point out to the community of KZbinrs and players, after an extremely (and uniquely) negative personal experience we recently had with staff from the Behringer conglomerate. Our opinion is that Music Tribe/Behringer, a multi-billion company, adopts opportunistic and at times also borderline exploitative strategies in order to maximize its profits. That's their priority, and there's nothing wrong with prioritizing profits. Unfortunately, though, they take this business approach to extremes that sometimes conflict with ethics; no other major company in the musical instrument industry behaves the way they do. From our experience, it regularly tries to get free exposure from KZbinrs without paying them; it's public knowledge that it has sued people for expressing their opinions about its products and publicly mocked journalists who criticize them; it also produced a borderline chauvinistic video ad at some point, just to mention a few notable things. At the peak of the pandemic, when gear builders were selling 3 to 5 times as much as in a normal year while promoters like us were seeing their earnings collapse, their TC staff tried to get us to do some promo for them "without a budget." Please note that while we cover all pedals on our blog without asking for money and we sometimes even do promotions without a budget for small, emerging brands, we don't think any multi-billion dollar company should ask anyone to work for free, ever. This personal experience, added to the many examples of morally questionable behavior highlighted in the video below, motivated us to post comments like this one on every new video highlighting TC and Behringer products we stumble upon, in the hopes that this negative publicity will make the company change their behavior. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pma1hHyNl79pjMU
