Sounds so good, love that vintage sound! Even that acoustic guitar sounds great too. Reminds me of Elliott Smith. I eq'd dropped the middle to -6 to -8 db in my baggs pickup in my taylor 714 for a few settings and it sounds very natural.
@chriskennedymusic12 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. The harmony is operated by a separate footswitch on the unit. Also, you can have even more control by adding an additional footswitch which you can use to trigger delays or boost your guitar for solos, etc.

Not only did you show the GTX's versatility, you showed your own too. Well done.
@chriskennedymusic11 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The MIDI is used by the GTX to work out what current chord is so it creates the correct harmonies. With the piano track I connected the output from the keyboard to the AUX-In and then also used the MIDI connection to make sure the harmony generations was correct. I don't think there's a specific vocoder effect, however you can get similar sounds.

Hi Steve. Glad you're getting well with the unit. That's the exact same setup I've been using lately. Makes setting up for a gig rediculously easy. The 'gnd' switch is a ground switch. It helps to reduce the buzzing sound you get if you have a group loop problem. I've used it a couple of times when using the unit with a valve guitar amp but I wouldn't have thought you would need it on with your setup.

Glad you liked my demo. Having tried both, I would say the quality of the effects on the TC unit is slightly better than the Digitech, although they're both good devices. The TC reverbs are particularly sweet sounding.

Wow, a very versatile musician - very well done.
@chriskennedymusic12 жыл бұрын
It depends if you need the extra effects. I have both and I would say the reverb and adaptive tone are pretty much the same. There are more options on the harmony and doubling, which can be useful. There are also a load more vocals effects too if you need them. Obviosly ther are also the electric guitar effects, which the other unit doesn't have.
@chriskennedymusic11 жыл бұрын
The way I set it up. Guitar into DI-input with a jack to jack lead, the link output on the DI into the amp with another jack to jack lead, and then the DI out into the GTX with a XLR to jack lead. Although I'm going from the balanced output of the DI into an unbalanced input on the GTX with the XLR to jack cable, it still beaks the ground loop between the GTX and the amp. Hope that helps.
@chriskennedymusic12 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I tend to use the harmony levels a little lower than their default setting which I think helps. I also find it useful to make test recordings as I create my presets as it's hard to get it right when you're hearing your own voice acoustically in the room (and in your head) whilst dialing in your settings.
@chriskennedymusic12 жыл бұрын
The quality of the effects are great for live use (*the reverbs in particular) and have very low levels of noise. Even through my studio monitors I can't hear any particularly noticable undesirable artifacts. The reverbs, for example, have much less hiss than the ones on my mixing desk and on my alesis nanoverb.

The VoiceLive Play GTX has more effects than the Harmony G-XT. There's also no looping on the Harmony G or guitar effects (except a little reverb).

Hi Steve, I'm glad you like it. I've been using mine several times a week at gigs since i got it and feel it has really improved my vocal sound. I think I understand your question. As far as I know, if you put on the octave up or down effect it is just your lead vocals that get transposed up or down the octave and not any of generated (3rd/5th/etc) harmony parts that you're also using.
@pezictusfish6 жыл бұрын
This is the best demo, all the others made me not want to buy it, tasteful and sensible use of the effects makes all the difference.

When I use my GTX with my old tube amp I have use a DI-box to reduce the hum. Although it still has to go from balanced to unbalanced, the DI-box helps to isolate the amp from the GTX/mic and helps stop any interference. I connect my guitar into the DI box and the link output going to the amp and the DI output going to the GTX. Might be worth a try.
@chriskennedymusic12 жыл бұрын
It has stereo XLR (mic level) outs and a headphone output. Personally i would have liked it to have had a couple of line-level jack outputs too as it would make my set-up simpler.

Hi, It's not really designed for that as far as I know. There is a separate output for the guitar for sending it to the amp, but I'm not sure or not if it can be used how you want it to be (I guess you could do it with the XLR out though and turn the amp sim off). Might be worth looking at the manual online, however you'd probably be better looking at a multi-fx processor primarily designed for guitar.

Hello, I know that this processor has been out for a while, I hope you can help me, when I connect the guitar and the amplifier line, it sounds without effect. The question is, can I separate the voice by sending it to the audio console and the guitar to my vox amplifier? thank you
@chriskennedymusic Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's been a while since I used the unit, but there are a range of options for how the outputs work in the settings menu. I have a feeling if you want the guitar with the effects you can't separate it, however you can if you want just the dry guitar sound to send to an amplifier or additional processor.

@chriskennedymusic11 жыл бұрын
Hi. Have you tried using the ground loop button on the device to help with the hum? I've had a few earthing issues before with the device and old valve amps and found using a DI box can help. Using the XLR outs will also help as they are balanced outputs, whereas the headphone output isn't. If you can't work out the cause of the problem you may want to contact TC Helicon customer service or post in their forum - they're usually pretty good any helping.

Excellent demo. Basic question, is this unit able to generate harmonies based purely on your vocals alone (I.E. No guitar plugged in)?
@chriskennedymusic9 жыл бұрын
GSlide Yes, by using the "room sense" mics or by manually setting the key - i've found best results are generally found when using a guitar vs the "room sense" mics, but I the manual key selection works well and I use it on a few tracks live so I can specify exactly the harmony I want regardless of what I'm playing (or not playing) on the guitar

Yes, I tried the ground lift and it didn't help. I cannot use the XLR out because I don't have a PA or an amp that accepts XLR input. Do you think something like an XLR line matching transformer work so I can use the XLR ouput for my guitar amp? But I guess if it will be converting the balanced output from XLR back to an unbalanced signal that my amp would accept, there'd still be noise? Thanks a bunch.

+meek weeks There's a noise gate on the radio effect. If you go into the advanced edit menu for the effect you can alter when it cuts in, which should sort your problem. Also check your mic input gain is high enough on the control on the side of the unit.

Hi, nice video. You have a great voice. I have a question and kind seem to find an answer. My guitar does not use pickups. I was wondering how well it would work if I used 1 or 2 condenser mic's for the guitar, and a seperate condensor or dynamic for the vocals? Or is that not a good idea? I still need to purchase the mics, so any info you can give me woyuld surely help. Thank you.
@chriskennedymusic10 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks. I can't say that I've tried it but I'm not sure how well it would work. In a live setting I would think you could have a lot of feedback problems using 2 condenser mics on stage like this. Also, the guitar input is a high impedance jack input that is designed for guitar pickups - so it would not offer enough gain for a microphone to be directly plugged into it, nor does it offer phantom power (there is phantom power on the regular mic input for your voice). As a result you would need a separate preamp for the condenser mic you plan to use with your guitar. You would also probably have to watch the gain on the preamp as it will most likely output at line level, which is too high for the guitar input on the TC pedal (although you could possibly put it into the aux-in). There's a chance you might be able to make it work for you, but I would have thought the best solution is to install a pickup in your acoustic guitar I'm afraid (LR Baggs Lyric might be a nice option if you like a more natural sound by the way).
@myhuckleberryfriend211910 жыл бұрын
Hi Miister Josh you need a magnetic soundhole pickup for your guitar. I use some LR Baggs and that works pretty well. But any other 50 dollar pickup will do if you just want to track the TC Helicon still using your acoustic sound.
@somefuckinguy710710 жыл бұрын
Ok, thank you for the info. I will look into that for sure. First i'll probably try to make it work, but I would have never thought the input would be a problem. I'm glad I asked, and thank you both for the quick replies.

Tc. Helicon should pay you!!! Do you like the amp modelling for electric guitar in this unit ?
@chriskennedymusic10 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'll send them an invoice - see what they say! ;) I would say the amp modelling is pretty good; however I still prefer to use my boutique tube amp and separate pedals. It's not quite up to the quality and flexibility of the Line6 emulations, but not that far off considering it's a secondary thing to the vocal effects. The sounds are certainly quite useable and much better than I was expecting considering what they cost.
