my favorite song on Arrival 🤩👍 and yeah, every Abba song has a similar style but they sound different. Agnetha and Frida are both powerhouse singers, and when they're doing background vocals AND the main vocals AT THE SAME TIME, the sound is incredible

One of their most underrated songs! I love the bouncy piano and the synth so much and the harmonies are angelic. And the layers! My favorite part is when it goes instrumental towards the end with those angelic vocals, goosebumps. The video show some clips from Knowing Me, Knowing You and Money, Money, Money so I thought you'd recognize them but I guess it's been a while. Also they sing "I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry" not "clearly". One of their best songs ever in my opinion.

The 'girl next door' isn't an actual person but the style of a person. An ordinary girl who will follow the regular path to marriage at the first chance. In contrast the person in the song is not the kind of girl who just gets married asap. What I like in this video is how, in the extra footage where they are singing, (not the excerpts from "Knowing me knowing you" and "Money money money") Frida always looks as if she is about to burst out laughing. She has that amused twinkle in her eyes. 😉

@edned55042 жыл бұрын
Ah, TCC. You've picked a good one here. I know your focus is mainly on the music and the composition, but the lyrics are so interesting in this song. It's sung from the POV of Carrie who is NOT the kind of girl you'd marry. She's warning her suitor off. "Don't you realise I may be an angel in disguise? It's lonely to be free But I'm not a man's toy, I'll never be I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry That's me" "There's a special love Like an eagle flying with a dove I'll find it in the end If I keep on searchin', but until then I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry That's me. Keep up the Abba work. I think you'd like Put on Your White Sombrero.

Maybe the word you are looking for is “craft”…..both the verb and the noun. ABBA certainly considered music making a craft, if not an outright art form. They understood the mechanics of song formation as well as the methods of creating harmony and discord. The harmonies (not only vocal) are the ones that go simultaneously to our hearts and brains. A song you might want to check out next that will give you not only the giggles, but a few clutching the pearls moments is “When I Kissed the Teacher”. You’ll appreciate the harmonies and the instrumental layerings that show how well these guys were at the craft of song writing and recording.
@herrbonk36352 жыл бұрын
They sure did, but doesn't most pop/rock bands see composition as a craft and/or art? That fact (opinion?) that most of them were not as gifted at it as Abba was is another thing, as I see it.

Or break it to Björn, since he’s the one who came up with this lyric. Though it’s not naturally plausible for an eagle to fly with a dove without eating it like you said, I think it’s very poetic. A good metaphor which brings softness and wildness together.

There's a special love, like an eagle flying with a dove. I'll find it in the end. The eagle and the dove are such unlikely soul mates, but their partnership might just exist somewhere. This is what Carrie is looking for - a lover that is so special, and so different from the people she has met up till now. It's not going to be conventional, but the most powerful and he most peaceful can coexist. Carrie's happy to reject all of the ordinary birds until she finds her eagle. Strange partnerships do happen. Look at Trump and his wife. Or Harry and Meghan. Charles and Camilla. Jack and Vera Duckworth. Elon and Twitter.
