Yes, I agree! I especially like how he keeps the melody line strong in the left hand while maintaining the thirds and fifths in the background with his right. His arpeggios have so much brilliance without too much pedal. Also he takes advantage of the una corda pedal for nice shading and coloring effect. His performance is actually better than Platinov who changed his performance with this piece every time he performed it!

Masterfully played, and I did enjoy it. However, I do not believe that this was performed by someone who has watched The Nutcracker. The second half of the song lacked the majesty and elegance that would be heard while accompanying the variation; almost crude. But I did like it, and appreciate the different interpretation of how it would be played.

It is strange you suppose this about a Russian pianist: "The Nutcracker" is the music we grow up with. If you compare, for example, Prokofiev's "Montecchi e Capuleti" (from Romeo & Juliet), you will also notice the difference between the ballet version and the piano rendition - respecting the specifics of each art.

Очень плохо по смыслу. Как повар с картошкой . Такое исполнение при таких виртуозных возможностях досадно. Невозможно слушать как грубо и не в тему. Ведь это же детская сказка о Щелкунчике ....Пианист порвал зал на куски мощняцкой игрой. Но у этой музыки другой смысл- загадочный, таинственный,волшебный. У Чайковского да и у Плетнева в марше другая динамика с первых тактов. А Фея драже ни по темпу( не станцевать в таком темпе), ни по динамике, ни по характеру не похожа на фею. Одинаково, неталантливо, неинтересно, очень грубо.
