TCL 40 NXTPaper Review: Great display, Average phone

I recently got this phone and am really enjoying it. For the price it has alot of features including stylus support. I have eye problems and the screen has been helpful for me such as reducing glare on the screen and less blue light. Also i have been pleased with the phone reception even though it's only 4g as i am in a bad reception area.

Hows it going now? Still like it? It it fast enough for normal day to day tasks? How do you find the camera?

This phone is not a flagship. It's a not a bad phone. It's got it's good and bad points. I think it's not bad for a $200 phone. Heck, i paid $170 for this phone brand new. You talk about $300 phones and this is not that. If i was willing to spend that kind of money I'd buy an older flagship. Please, for the sake of your audience, don't judge it against higher end phones. It's a budget phone with budget specs and stylus support. You can't compare a deawoo to a Ferrari. They are both cars but they are opposite ends of the spectrum. Be blessed.

Here in Australia - in Australian dollars - it *is* a $349 phone, which is why I describe it that way. And you’re not wrong, it’s always best to compare like with like. But against similar priced phones (Moto G84 springs to mind) this is slower and the camera isn’t as good. That’s a fair comparison- and it’s the one I make.

@@AlexKidman thank you for that clarification. I to feel that this phone, though having potential is on the slower side. Still, as my daily driver it's not a bad phone.

I had a look at one in store, the screen is defo different but I didnt mind it. And I also like larger screens so its got that too. But the actual specs dont seem that good, or the camera. Dunno. I kinda like it but I think Id better off with something else for same money or pay a bit more for something else. Im in two minds about it.

@@fonzitheman it's an older phone bit it's good with the dual screen. I multitask a lot so i use both screens. The 865 professor. and eight gigs of ram make it fast and smooth. Three quad dac drives heavier headphones and clearer sound quality. The stylus support is awesome for people like me who draw. The screen may not be 120hz but i don't mind it. The colors are vibrant and there really isn't a phone today in the $150 range that can honestly do all the stuff this can. The cameras are dated though. I can give you that but other than that it's a great phone.

Hello You who have experience working with this phone How is the build quality of this phone compared to the Samsung A14?

You should only get this phone if you only use a phone for messaging and watching videos. If you do anything else then skip this one.

right i went from a Nokia 2.2 to this tcl 40 so as the man says not top security ,, so i have Avast on mine so that solves that ,, as it , not been fast ..well its like going from a 3 wheeler to a poush for me not every person buys the latest phone every year some of us have a brain

Hi. I have several questions for everyone who has this phone, not only to the reviewer; based on their own experience with it. These questions are ¿How good is the experience with its display, expecifically with the nxtpaper feature?¿How comfortable is reading long time with it on this mode, relativelly to other phone's models? ¿How easy is to read its display on direct sunlight? These other questions are intented whom are also root users: ¿How easy is rooting this device?¿Is it available a custom recovery for this device?¿How easy is to install a custom recovery to it? ¿How easy is to unlock its bootloader and override the orange/red state on it?

just install a matt screen protector in a regular phone. you will get the same experience but the down side is poor visibility in direct sunlight. but good viewing on low light scenarios

This is different. Those matte screen protectors blur the screen. This one doesn't.

I've used it for a while and I'm really disappointed. I'd happily take less storage and RAM, and a lower resolution camera, just for it to have A FUCKING GYROSCOPE, and an OS that doesn't consistently scream at me to update.

Sorry for the late reply, @@jub8891 Crazy, isn't it? It means no camera stabilization among other things, so you can have a 420 Mpix camera and still take terrible blurry photos. The build quality is shit as well, at least that makes it easy to disassemble. By the way, after a while, the battery/charging circuit will develop a fault, whereby the phone WILL NOT charge from USB C to C chargers, only USB A to C. It will show a fast charging icon, but barely take 400mA from the charger.
