Nice video. I love how you go into such detail. I really like your variation from the original. I also don't find much need for monster articulated flies on the small streams I fish. Keep up the good work.

Nice variation of the Huge sculpzilla, I have tied sculpins on long streamer hooks before. Not the old super long that takes the natural movement away. I will try some of these. Sometimes when I want bulk, I tie in a few stiff deer or elk hair forward and push it back and tie up against it. fanning out and supporting the front feathers. Then I add the sculpin head upside down if I want the hook to ride up. All the best, Sean

Thanks for the comments, Sean, and that's a good idea to fan deer hair out to create bulk. Will the fly then naturally ride hook point up, or do you have to also add weight to the top of the hook shank? Thanks again, and I hope all is well. Tim
@seanmooney3907
@seanmooney3907 10 жыл бұрын
If you put the sculpin head on upside down the weight in the head is on the bottom instead of the top inverting the fly. All the best, Sean

Sean Mooney Thanks for the reply, Sean. I was confused bc the barbell eyes on this pattern are tied on the top of the shank, thus inverting the fly and allowing it to ride hook point up. I am guessing you use sculpin heads, which are great for so many patterns. Tim

Yes I do but the weight in the heads are in the bottom of the head. If you put it on upside down the fly will ride hook up. The other thinner fish heads are weighted in the bottom too, just inverting the head will invert the hook. All the best, Sean

Great question, Cody! It was always tricky to find, now nearly nonexistent. I have switched to Semperfli products and found a couple good offerings. Check this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppnHh4qvqpiChJY

I tie them on a sz 4 Daiichi 1750 which is a 4x long hook. I tie it like the original, but experiment with different materials and sizes. By employing that hook as the "shank", you can make it the full length, or cut it way down. I prefer to cut it way down for a smaller fly. I will tell you first hand that it doesn't necessarily spook fish, even in small streams. I've thrown a decent sized sculpzilla in a small mountain stream and watched a beautiful Cutty come from the bottom and eat it without thinking twice!

+Joe Kayafas Great comments, Joe, and glad to know that you've had success on the smaller patterns! It sounds like the situation you described was very cool. Thanks for taking a moment, buddy, and I hope all is well. TC

Nice vid. Will tie 1 today, then I'll put it in clear container of water on the end of some tipit to see what it looks like. Would be nice if you had a small aquarium for that. Just a thought , from a well meaning arm chair director ! ;-) Thanks for a well done tutorial. Best regards, Bob

Hey Tim, I am heading to Alaska next year and they are recommending a "Natural Sculpzilla". Would you please recommend some pattern combinations for a natural. Thanks, Brent
@TimCammisa
@TimCammisa 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brent, thanks for reaching out. First guess is to go with a natural brown/tan color combination (lighter shade on bottom). However, I would talk to the outfitter making the recommendation, as they would know best. Have a great trip! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Great tie but not a sculpzilla that originated from Solitude.

Thanks for the comment, and you're right; this is a variation of Soliitude's original, as mentioned in the video. The most notable difference is that this is tied on a single hook versus an articulated shank. TC

Awesome tutorial! Tim, was that a box of Barilla pasta behind you off your right shoulder on that smaller table? Sure looked like it. 😘 You're the best, now you made me hungry! Ciao paisa'!

Nice try, Joe, but it wasn't pasta...it was a box of moth balls! By the way, when buying pasta, we ALWAYS go with Barilla, so we're on the same page! Hope all is well, buddy, and more importantly, homemade sauce or store bought?? ;-) Tim

Tim Cammisa LOL! You've got to admit it's a similar looking box! That makes sense for a tying room, I thought you may have a hot plate to cook some up while your tying orders. I like their pasta, especially the protein plus. I'll tell ya though, Tops markets here has sales on imported pastas, (the CEO is Italian,) Garofalo brand, made in Gragnano Napoli has a radiatore cut that was fantastic! Looks like the old radiators and it's also curved like a 🐚 shell. Sauce holding aldente to the tenth power. I love fusilli type cuts but I never heard of radiatore. Sauce, homemade of course and not just tomato marinara either, many types. But I'll admit in a pinch I like Francesco Rinaldi traditional. (high BP so usually no salt added) usually I'll add it to fried onions, garlic, tomato paste etc. Sometimes I'll heat some and drop a couple of eggs in it, break it up, cooked soft or hard it's awesome. Especially if you fry up some ham with it. Well that was fun Tim, now I'm hungry, take care my friend ✋😎🍷

Maybe try adjusting the settings on the video, which are in the lower right-hand corner. The video was shot in HD and plays perfectly for me. Good luck, and I hope you get it figured out! TC
