That genuine part is also aftermarket. When i pulled my original water pump off the propeller was cast iron about 4mm thick not tin like yours and my present water pump is the same as the one in your hand. I dont think they make "original" any more.
@nexgenrevamp29763 жыл бұрын
Not too sure myself in comparing to other pumps. Definitely the visual difference in design and clearances of the internals of the two pumps the i had one bought as a 'genuine' pump looked as though it would be more efficient. Always interesting/great to hear experiences of others. Thanks for the comment/info

hey mate was the coolant bubbling when u let the car idle from rad cap and was there any sign of white smoke from the exhaust?
@nexgenrevamp29763 жыл бұрын
Hi. I never really noticed white smoke so to speak of nor did i have it running with the cap off (maybe once but think it blew water out). The system would get pressure as soon as started and push excessive water out the over flow on the hwy. I mentioned in another comment i found a mismatch in both tension and procedure for head torque specs between the gasket kit and genuine workshop manual as possible cause. Also the header tank i put on the firewall i feel has really helped with preventing any air locks in the system. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question/comment.

@@regularmerc4753 thanks for the comment , its an expansion tank to raise the water level above the height of the engine and heater , similar to the OEM setup in the later GU patrol :)

What head torque did you use
@nexgenrevamp29763 жыл бұрын
I used the torque specs and tightening procedure that came with the gasket kit this time around. I think from memory the Nissan workshop manual says final step of roughly 80-85ish ftlb, 110-115ish nm (double check that). The gasket kit procedure had 90° tightening steps to finish off, i did notice on final step the digital torque wrench was giving a reading of just over 100ftlb. Definitely tighter and possibly the reason mine leaked after only 2 years previous doing it to Nissan specs. Thanks for the question Hamish G, hope it helps.

Hey mate how many bolts hold the rocker assembly?
@nexgenrevamp29762 жыл бұрын
@Will Geuan To be honest off the top of my head i couldn't tell you without checking a manual or lifting the rocker cover off again. Sorry can't give you an answer at this stage. Maybe Google search perhaps?

@@nexgenrevamp2976 no worries mate, I’ve snapped a rocker arm locking thread, just doing some research to see how cunt of a job it is. Google has been little help.
@nexgenrevamp29762 жыл бұрын
Hhmm Thats a different one. Can probably find a pick of cylinder head if you msg me on FB messenger i can probably send it to you. Other than that the hardest part (its really fiddly) is putting the whole assembly back on. The rockers want to sit all over the place/upside down. Bit of a pain.
@nexgenrevamp29762 жыл бұрын
Had a bit of a look there are 16bolts, 2 per post, the 8 posts hold the rocker shaft. Watch out for the end posts have a smaller third bolt in the centre of each, that bolt holds the last post to the shaft. Take the smaller end bolts out on the bench if you are pulling the assembly apart to change a rocker, if not id leave the centre end bolts alone. Good luck.
@willgeuan68712 жыл бұрын
@@nexgenrevamp2976legend thank you! I was doing valve clearances and previous owner had nipped the locking nut eayyy to tight. The rocker arm has fatigued over time and snapped under hand tightening. It was rocker #12 that had broken so fingers crossed I can just remove the rocker assembly. Undo the small bolt and slide the broken rocker out replace with the new one without dismantling the whole thing. Cheers legend

When you said you changed the head gasket because it was pressurising your cooling system i don't understand. The patrol (GU anyway, not sure about GQ) runs a pressurised cooling system. Obviously any leaking head gasket is bad though.

Hi Nick sorry for slow reply . il get tobe to answer that one hes the patrol guy
@nexgenrevamp29763 жыл бұрын
You are correct Nick the system is normally pressurised. The patrol however was over pressurising far above the radiator cap pressure and pushing excessive water out thorough the overflow bottle while driving. After investigating further have discovered since there was a difference in tightening torque spec between genuine workshop manual and the manufacturer of the vrs kit (the kit had higher tightening spec). Can only assume when i previously put the head on i used the workshop manual specs not vrs specs. Patrol has been running great since so far. Thanks for question Nick hope that answers. Tobe

Don"t waste your time or money on a Nissan.
@nexgenrevamp29762 жыл бұрын
@Terry Entirely your opinion. Been around, modified and repaired many different brands of 4wd over the years and not one of them is without design flaw. As for the age old Toyota vs Nissan argument, owned both over the years and both have had issues. The patrol since this work hasn't missed a beat so no complaints here.
