Hi, I have just had my seals and washes replaced and have had a dramatic loss of power on my Defender td5 2005. The shop who did it for me has no idea why. Is there any advice you may offer. Appreciate any assistance

I'm sorry for the slow reply. I don't know why that might be. Is it possible they didn't do it right and you have leaking seals?

@@TheFestival500 get this, I had another shop take out my injectors and had them tested. The report said that they were so bad there was no way my vehicle ever ran properly. His guess was that the first shop swapped my injectors. Unfortunately no way to prove it. Had to get refurbished ones, now Landy back to normal. Big school fees for me.

Great video. One question, did you push the accelerator down to the bottom while starting as is indicated when performing the empty diesel tank procedure?
@Td5Adventures3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes I did but if you do the sequence of letting the fuel pump prime the system properly you almost don't need to push the gas pedal for it to start and run properly :)
@leejones76432 жыл бұрын
If you look down at the small gap between the camshaft sprocket and the camshaft carrier, you will see marks numbered 1 - 5 on the camshaft as you rotate the engine. These marks line up with a shaped piece on the camshaft carrier. These numbered marks indicate the highest lift of the injector lobe on the camshaft and are used when adjusting adjusting the injector lash screws.

shouldn't they be tightened from middle out to each end?
@Td5Adventures3 жыл бұрын
The injectors themselves are tightened individually, the rocker shaft should be slowly tightened from the middle out to prevent it from snapping. I don't know what you meant exactly though😅

Good video mate! Helps a lot. I'll have to do mine sometime soon no doubt being a 20 year old td5. Many of us Brits normally stay well clear of britpart parts though especialliy for things in the engine as they dont tend to last. I always go for Mann filters (the same that lr originally used) and i think for injector seals i would go to the main stealer.
@Td5Adventures4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Just showing it isn't that hard! With filming it took about 2 hours, never done it before😉 Oh yeah, I still haven't had much trouble with Britpart stuff but this job was quite easy to do so wouldn't care too much if the parts fail again.. Next time I'll buy genuine as well!

I read somewhere that one of the reasons theTD5 head cracks is over tightening the injectors . When I did mine I followed rave however it was for a 10p engine
@Td5Adventures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the reasons can be many!
@intestinalworm12022 жыл бұрын
The cylinder head wall thickness surrounding the injectors can be an issue - bit thin. Turner Engineering supply an AMC head made in Spain. I hear it is very well made and superior to the LR Genuine head - it has thicker walls around the injectors - less liable to crack and let diesel into your oil
@landergoni57303 жыл бұрын
Great video! Just a question. What kind of trouble you had starting the engine? In my disco2 TD5 I´m having a kind of misfire on startup, like if some injectors where not priming correctly (some cilinders start correctly but some are failing), like if there is air trappted in the system. Pump was working fine and the pressure regulator was changed about 20K ago. Fuel filter also has only 10K. While running, car drives as usual without issues. Thanks!!
@Td5Adventures3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I had no problems starting, I only had diesel in my oil which can mean a bad injector seal or cracked cylinder head (which was my case). You probably have bad injector washers letting air leak into the fuel system. I'd really recommend you do this as part of diagnosing your problem. You will likely only have to do this and solve the problem straight away! Good luck :)

Well… I think I’ve solved the issue. Yesterday night I was under the car doing the oil change when I realised some kind of humidity in the bottom of the fuel pressure regulator. The fact is that there wasn’t an evident fuel leak. No drops and neither smell. But I was able to tight a bit the nut that holds the return pipe from the fuel cooler. Then my misfire issue on the startup disappeared! So the lesson today is: even if everything seems ok, check it properly!! 😅 Thank you very much for your help!! Regards from Spain

Do you have to disconnect the fuel lines from the Fuel Pressure Regulator before removing injectors? Conflicting forum post's claim not doing so can lead to fuel where it shouldnt be and subsequent run-away? Edit: so does disconnecting Fuel Pump fuse, then turning engine over with key negate the above?
@Td5Adventures6 ай бұрын
I did not remove any fuel lines from the engine. There is no risk for runaway engine when it comes to diesel fuel. Runaway occurs when oil gets pushed into the combustion chamber, which can not happen when removing an injector👌🏼

I must have been blessed with Britpart - their starter motor has been a dream - not quite the same weight as the original Denso, but has lasted four years so far without missing a beat! The copper injector washers have to be annealed - maybe that is the problem with some of the cheap ones out there?! (You can anneal them yourself)

Hi. I have a problem with oil inside the fuel tank. Is it possible that the problem is in lack of injector?
@Td5Adventures Жыл бұрын
Engine oil in the fuel tank? That sounds very unlikely, oil must somehow get into the fuel return line, I don't know if that can be because of a bad head gasket, cracked cylinder head or bad injector seals. I'm guessing head gasket or cracked head.

Hey! I've done lots of jobs outside as well so I know your struggle.. keep it going and you'll get there! No, you don't need to unhook any fuel lines to do this job. Bad choice in the brand of washers and o'rings. Always use genuine ones. About injector codes, even if the places are changed, the engine will always fire and work perfectly. there is no need to be coded

Not strictly true, it will fire but may run rough and misfire. The code tells the ecu the characteristics of the injector which are determined when a new injector is tested at the factory. The code tells the ecu how to vary the timing/duration of spray ,without this information the cylinders wont be balanced
