7:33 this might actually work with the adaption of the Battle of Britain system. But the Pacific in general, like for example Guadalcanal, would be a very fitting campaign. …or completely out of the box, Viet Nam, although this might be pushing the “feel” Osprey is going for (judging by the art work).

@@greg_herhuth Thanks! Normandy is the first, but honestly, they are all super accessible. Probably wouldn’t start with Stalingrad, since it’s a campaign and a there’s a little more going on with that one. But I’d say grab whichever one has a theme you like the most.

I'm not personally into more specific real world historical themes (more abstract real world themes like Mosaic or Civilization I can do), so I held off on Undaunted. I am certainly interested in Callisto, but I was talked into buying War Chest because of its mechanical similarity to Undaunted as a thematic alternative before Callisto was an option and I found War Chest a bit stifling. Have you played War Chest and how would you say it compares to Undaunted: Callisto? I probably would try Callisto if it appeared at one of our game nights, but I'm not sure I want to buy it yet, and I'm not sure one of the other two main gamers with libraries will get it either.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer24 күн бұрын
@@refreshdaemon I really like War Chest, which is essentially Undaunted stripped of theme. But I really like the series as a whole, and Callisto is great, thematic fun. Hope you get a chance to play one soon.

Hi Cody, is this game playable for 4 players or is it just an artificial option? Thanks

Undaunted series is highly regarded. But I've yet to dip my toe into the game . Theres something about Undaunted I find really daunting more than any other game. Probably due to me not playing many deck-building games What would be your recommendation for complete Undaunted novice? I do keep eying up Undaunted Battle of Britain just because of the subject matter. I must get over my reluctance for deck builders .I know im missing out some classic games.

Normandy is pure infantry. North Africa adds vehicles but they are handled very clumsily. Reinforcements fixes that. Stalingrad does not allow individual scenarios, you must play a campaign. Normandy is overall the best imo.

Question: I struggle to play games based on real world conflict because it feels like I'm trivialising it. Particularly WW2 because of being partially raised by people directly involved in it. As a result I'm not playing some good games and missing learning opportunities. Can anyone talk me out of this position? Or point me to a video that covers it.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer20 күн бұрын
@@brekerr For many, games are the primary way a lot of people learn about history and wars. As a professional military historian, I’m delighted that games spark interest in history. I started played Axis & Allies at twelve years old, and that set me on my path to becoming a historian of WWII. Just my two cents.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer do you have any thoughts on the idea of trivialising wars?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer20 күн бұрын
@@brekerr I suppose anything - a movie, a tv show, a song, a game, runs the risk of doing that. I’ve spoken in some of videos about my feelings in playing the ‘bad guys’ in war games. I do like Undaunted and Osprey Games. Not keen on the sci-fi theme though. Undaunted have a feel for the kind of envirmnet and units in that theatre. Gneeric sci-fi or fantasy has to be very good to work for me in Undaunted. Wildlands (Osprey) fantasy style did work fine but there the envoirment iand style of campaign s not as big part of the game fo me.
