I have a friend who is a teacher in a childcare. The observation is that kids who have too much exposure to gadgets like Ipads lack the ability to learn simple things like how full they are from a meal. They are so used to having an ipad in front of them while eating a meal that they have no idea how full they are from a meal. The teachers have to feed them during meal times because they don't know how to eat without an ipad in front of the bowl. They also don't know what they are consuming because their eyes are on the screen... Henceforth, not developing a healthy interaction with food, how each component in the meal taste like, developing likes and dislikes to food personal impression what is in their bowl etc. It is quite sad.

TV was the old iPad. People need to start drawing more parallels to 90s kids. I don’t agree that my childhood was just toys or random objects around the house, and that I didn’t have an ‘ipad’ growing up. My ipad was the TV my grandma put me in front of, gameboy, the first gen computer mini games that my aunt and uncle show me before all these anti-screen sentiments. Anything of too much is bad, it’s all about moderation. Always felt educators with strong anti-iPad sentiments are not practical. I wish more industry experts would acknowledge and explain that it is okay, for the average parent, to use screen from to time to give yourself (parents) a break, and not have to feel guilty about it. My parents that didn’t grow up with technology, is slow to pickup any tech. So I do believe exposing children to tech and screens early on in moderation is alright. Still have fond memories of the cartoon characters I watch growing up and pushed me to become a creative now. Screen kills creativity? Not for me.

I have just started my parenting journey (7 yrs + 1.5 yrs) compared to the colleagues around me. So I wouldn't consider myself an expert as I am always learning in this journey. But one thing I have learnt and have done well is that I have immunity to judgement from people. If my baby whines and cries in the public because he can't get what he wants, and after some attempts by me to try to let him stop, I just let him go ahead and don't bother already. But I wouldn't use a phone to get him to calm down. I disagree with such strategy. By the way, im a very involved dad. I know what im saying.

Honestly, parents nowadays are lazy and ALWAYS self over children. With the common excuses of "so i can have peace/sanity". It is you who chose to let them use the gadgets, you lack the ability to discipline your children, you lead them down that path with your own hands. When kids cry, parents will just give in to them. But never ONCE they see their own inability to stop the kid from crying, or getting what they want. It's the "easy way out". I agree that kids learn from educational apps. Sadly, most of them are just memorizing based on what is shown or told in the app. They rarely need to think out of context. Compared to kids playing with toys. For example, how to stack/build Legos, Jenga, or any other hands on games.

To say that parents who let kids watch iPad are lazy, is a sweeping statement. It’s fine to watch iPad or TV. It’s about limiting the screen time.

I always think that my parents was overprotective, constantly contacting me n call my friends when I am not reachable. My mum always ask for a fren contact of mine. After reading news of tragedy stories. I realise the importance of such actions. Looking at news of missing and even death cases. Could u imagine if u have no clue of who ur child is with, how devastated or lost u will be as a parent or even just a fam member. I uds now tat it's a necessary ask. But at the same time instead of calling at random times where we r just away from phone n busy with other activities maybe talking or playing. Probably good to just ask me to report status for a piece of mind. Building the connection. Making the regular updates a habit which I think will be good. Or even better gives a apple tag or smth as a tracker ops. 😂😅

Kids are free to do what they want - meltdown, run around and what not - as long as they don't cause disturbance to other members of the public. Parents could at least do something to mitigate that, but unfortunately that's not done.

Look left right in while dining out kids using screen while eating. Is it so parents can eat in peace? No family interactions while eating?

There a price for everything you do. Technically speaking you can do whatever you want but are you prepared to pay the price?

I dare say the majority of the naysayers who say no iPad to kids likely don’t have kids lol. Appropriate amount of screen time is fine. Don’t make it sound like iPad / TV is all bad. There are great educational stuff on KZbin like Sheriff Labrador and Ms Rachel.

How can you let your child, especially at such a young age, decide for themselves what they want to be and how they want to be dressed when they are still finding and discovering who they are? We as parents are supposed to guide and educate them from the start till they become adults about what this should be and what this shouldn't be given our adequate knowledge of what we have already experienced in this world thus far.

The "spoilt generation" was caused by the millennials. As we had so much trauma in our childhood, hence we try to say yes to our children. Which had caused a negative impact entirely
