If one beam is completely fractured it's likely there are other beams with less visible structural deterioration. Complete bridge needs careful inspection with instrumentation capable of measuring deterioration.

2 Bridges at Memphis is too much of a choke point for the daily volume. I-55 Bridge needs a rebuild and need a spur interstate to another bridge just over in MS to connect to the I-269 (or 69) and I-55 junction. That would give a 3rd option to relive traffic flow backup.

Until the cracked beam was found, there was traffic as usual. I cannot believe they shut down river traffic. The bridge is not going to fall! Get a few "C" clamps, some steel plate and a welding team up there. Problem solved!

That bridge in Minnesota that went down also had cracks in it before MNDOT construction crew made the crucial mistake of putting over 200k lbs on it to make repairs
