Thanks Kurt, I got LumaFusion and just uploaded my first video of one of my training hikes. Getting excited now, start 9 October and will post first video 7 days later as you suggested. I was hoping to upload all with WiFi but may have to look at getting a New Zealand phone just for data (have to keep using my Australian phone to look after my business). International day rate for phone and text isn’t too bad but the data is terribly expensive so I will have mobile data off the whole time.

It would certainly be helpful to have a level of competency already about all these things before beginning your TA. I could imagine myself trying to do any of this and being frustrated pretty quickly. Im not too technically savvy with such things. At days end, I'd want to just unwind, eat and rest 😊 A lot of helpful information though. You did exceptionally well with your editing and videoing. Every day I did look forward to watching your story and following you. Now to technically understand your process, makes me more appreciate the efforts you went to - to secure your videos and allow us the window into your day. Thank you for all that. And you say you're not technically minded? That makes me mindlessly numb! 😊

Editing did help me unwind at the end of the day. But I can understand how others would find it stressful.

You’re a clever gizza Kurt, I must get that magnet. How did you save your daily footage once processed (or did you delete) and the videos once created for possible future use please?

Yeah that was one thing I didn’t get worked out the way I wanted. I wanted to upload all the raw videos for future use but found that impossible with the spotty cell service I “enjoyed”. I could have just filled up memory cards but that would have been pretty expensive for me and not something I was willing to do. In the end, I felt that the videos I wanted to preserve were uploaded on YT.

At 14:31at the McDonalds, were you and Richie causing the lights to flicker with your uploading and downloading? Very funny! I am very impressed with that software Lumafusion and how fast your thumbs were moving as you demonstrated it's features. I think you have watched some videos from the thruhiker IBTAT..?..and I know he carried about a kilogram of gear including an ipad for editing! And he had at least another kilogram of Sony s70 camera and lenses...So it's interesting to see that recording can be done fine with a Gopro and editing can be done on a Samsung. Much lighter to carry. Thanks for the explanation of the behind the scenes mechanics of vlogging a trail. 😀

Im not familiar with IBTAT. I know some people out there are making a video and hiking to do it. I was hiking and making a video about it. Not a matter of right or wrong, just different focus. I think what you decide to do about that will dictate how much equipment you take. And by the way, I don’t think Richie and I were a powerful enough duo to make the lights flicker! 😂

So glad you're getting to do this and share the journey with your whanau. KZbin has free to use music you can download. They list it by genres. I also searched for free to use music. Most of that can't be used if you want to monetise your videos (which I have no intention of doing). Pixabay is a good place to start. Go well!

Thanks. I've been looking at which app to use for editing, as my tablet is too heavy. Hadn't heard of this one yet. Hoping to making my own series in September.

I considered taking my iPad but in the end found it just too heavy. I was surprised how easy it was to edit on my phone.

@@freedom_on_the_trail I agree, my tablet weighs about 1 kg, including the charger. Without it, my base weight comes to about 8 kg, so technically I could take it, but I'd prefer not to.
