..not boring at all - my dad build a larger Cutty Sark model many many many years ago and i saw this beautiful sailship during my entire childhood sitting on a shelf. Today i'm at the same age as my dad was at this time, but the ship is long gone.... perhaps i should build one some day.

I've been lucky enough to see the Cutty Sark a few time myself - once when I was a kid shortly before it caught fire and had to be restored again. Really beautiful boat, and a fantastic recreation!

When I was a nipper we had a day trip to the Cutty-Sark for a look round. Maybe the lack of a figurehead in the box was down to the fact 'Cutty-Sark' was usually depicted with her bosom bare to the world as her sark (petticoat/nightie) fell off in a rapture. The ship is still a place to visit when you are next in London.

You just blew my mind again. Not only because you just excelled at a ship diorama with a ship you had to research, but because you also just switched gears effortlessly to painting a watercolor background. I love the completed diorama.

I enjoyed this model build and as a Brit, I also enjoyed going on the original Cutty Sark in London. We often imagine ships as huge but in reality, they were tiny as were the people at the time (around 4 inches shorter on average).

Thank you so much.....my Grandfather had a hobbie of making sailing ships inside a bottle,I watched him raise the sails on one one day and he swore me to secretly on how he did it I was 5at the time but I have a rare vidio photographic memory and I can see everything remember anytime I want .His favourite was the picture of the Cutty Shark ship on the high seas, my Grandmother gave it to me ,when I was moving house years back the glass broke and the picture print was badly damaged It was a treasured memory of my Grandfather after he passed away.I still keep it though even damaged.. I also still have his plaster ship fire place frount screen of the Santa Maria, chased it up on an Auction got it back after friends of my Grandmother which she gave it to passed away and their relations sold everything off. .But all his bottled ships disapeared with anything else........so glad to see your work, brought back lovely memories ,and your work is lovely..

Awesome i am a sailor and i really enjoyed watching this i have the same model kit and it turned out nothing like this i have tried many times unsuccessfully to create realistic water
@scotiadragoon59742 жыл бұрын
I’ve got the same kit as well. It’s a… clipper…, but it is by no means Cutty Sark. I keep poking at mine; stripped the “rails” off from the hull, stripped off and replaced the boats, put a rudimentary cabin in, and opened the port holes. I still have to sort out replacement sails, as I want to hang out all of the laundry and the kit just doesn’t have that. Shrouds and ratlines have to be replaced…sooo much detail. ack.
@WildBison6683 жыл бұрын
Very nice, fantastic idea using that tea box. One gripe is that bottom of the cutty sark was not wood, but copper plating. Would've been a pain I think to get the right metallic glint and shading, but would've been a striking visual

Beautiful diorama and model work. Loved the little history tidbits too, Only thing that bothers me is the missing rigging under the bowsprit (big pole on front of boat). There should be lines coming back from the low point of the vertical post, back up to the hull. The sea witch figurehead would also have been hanging down there. Otherwise, great build!!
@kengan34322 жыл бұрын
I used to use clear silicone sealant to make the water layer on top. It smelled terrible but it works quite well, it will create a thick transparent layer on top and you can create waves with it.

I have no idea how I missed this video of yours, as I just saw it for the first time. Hats off to the tin foil method - looks awesome! Additionally, I noticed you did not make the very common mistake of having the flag at the top of the main mast blowing in the opposite direction as the wind that fills the sails. Far too many ship models have the flag blowing towards the back as the ship moves forward! LOL
@BardanJusik132 жыл бұрын
Actually it is possible, to have flag blowing more to the back, than to the front - many ships can sail faster than the wind is blowing, when the boat is sailing at a broad angle off the wind, but not directly downwind.

If you ever do a trip to London, you can see the actual Cutty Sark…it’s on permanent display….it almost got burnt down but was painstakingly rebuilt. You’ve done her justice 🙏👍….you can take a boat trip from the Cutty Sark along the Thames into Central London…so passing things like the Tower of London, stopping of by the Globe Theatre (yup the one that was used to perform many a Shakespearean play) and all the way up towards Westminster Abbey/Houses of Parliament etc 👍

Tea Clippers: fastest ships in the world. Why? Because Brits take their tea really, really seriously. The annual race from Hong Kong back to the UK was an event in itself. First one back got prestige, bragging rights, and the cream off the top of the market.
