In this enlightening episode of “Tea with Botha,” we explore the intersection of modern African women, religion and ubuntu with our guest, Dr Sandiswa Lerato Kobe, a descendant of Christian Xhosa prophet Ntsikana and a missiology lecturer at UNISA.
Many women find solace, community, and emotional support within religious congregations. These spaces offer a sense of belonging, shared values, and opportunities for personal growth.
Some religious traditions have embraced women in leadership roles. Women serve as clergy, educators, and community organisers, contributing to the spiritual well-being of their communities.
Despite progress, women continue to encounter discrimination within religious institutions. Inequality, exclusion from certain rituals, and limited access to religious spaces persist. Theologies that depict women as secondary or subordinate can perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Challenging these narratives is essential for progress and ubuntu plays an important role.
