*Great **dogy.training** lots of helpful instructions and ideas without being dictatorial. I like this writer's style a lot and we have found it more helpful than several of the other books that we got to help train our new puppy because of the detail he goes into.*

I just did this with my 9 week old German Shepherd and he picked it up within 5 minuets. I also already taught him to not bite my hand with treats in it by having a hand full of treats saying "off" while he pawed and bite my hand and as soon as he would back off I gave him a treat. There's videos on that as well. So you definitely want to teach him that before attempting any other training using treats. It worked for me and I'm a new puppy owner :)

I saw this on It’s Me or the Dog and it worked beautifully with my 11 month old red border heeler rescue. He’s now two years old and wonderfully responsive, despite his anxiety and clearly traumatic history. I credit it entirely to the months I spent obsessively watching Victoria’s content after adopting him, looking for insight into his behavior and training techniques. No other source was as directly helpful in bringing out the very good and beautiful boy inside the scrappy, bristly (literally, his coat was rough and strange at first) little mutt I first met. He’s so good, in fact, we felt confident in rescuing a 2 month old puppy from the same shelter this year. I searched this up directly to help my sister train our puppy’s littermate, but we haven’t needed it, because our dog is such a good role model that the puppy picks things up from mirroring him. ❤ Thank you for sharing your work so freely, it’s absolutely life changing.

This lesson is more valuable than most people know. Thousands of years ago our ancestors realized how to control each other using the expectation of harm, controlling with fear. Now we have learned how to encourage good behaviors in a mutually beneficial way, for our pets, our children, our employees, and in every general sense where governing is needed. Using positive reinforcement instead of negative punishment is the evolved method of governing. Thank You Victoria Stilwell.

My husband and I adopted this dog from a shelter in Georgia about a week after this and the other two videos were shot. Victoria called him Dylan, but we call him Buddy. We believe that he is part shepherd/lab with a little chow. He's a really smart and good dog!

Thanks for the suggestion! For the "people" part of your question, have you seen our videos called "Familiarizing a Puppy to Human Hands" and "Familiarizing Your Puppy to Touch"? Those will help if you have multiple people helping you with the training. The more humans and hands they are acquainted with at an early age, the more trusting they'll be as they grow older.
