Are there any issues w "older" people applying for these positions? I would love to have this as a goal in several years. I speak French, and have some teaching experience, but not a masters yet. Im a writer and I love learning languages, it's actually made me appreciate English so much more lol. Are there prejudices against "older" folks?

Thank you for your helpful video Lyndi. Did you already have a masters/m1 when you applied for the lectrice positions?
Жыл бұрын

Hi... I am a language assistant interested in becoming a lectrice... What should be our level of French ideally while applying for this job? I am a native speaker of English from India but do candidates also need IELTS academic score?
2 жыл бұрын
hi parthivi! as for level, i'm not certain but i think B2 is usually recommended. you speak in french with any admin and colleagues (and sometimes with students!) I don't know of IELTS! But i didn't need that, if you're native and it usually helps to have some teaching experience (i.e. assistant de langue program) :) let me know if you have other questions!

Salut Lyndi! It's Emma again :) Thanks for sharing this! I have some more questions for you. -Do you think including a letter of recommendation with CV and lettre de motivation would be helpful even if they're not asked for by the university? -How many unis did you apply to? -What key words do you look for when searching on uni websites for an email to send your CV and lettre de motivation? (recrutement, département de..., etc,?) -This is a bit more related to the video you posted about a week in the life, but I'm wondering what your transportation costs are like and if your employer helps out at all.

Hi Emma:) i'm glad you found this helpful^^ 1) yes! that's what i did when i applied spontaneously :) remember you don't know them so by providing a lettre de motivation you're showing them a bit of who you are and why you want to work there:) 2) i was trying to stay in the region so i probs applied to 20...lol many where spontaneous because not all unis posted a position so I was just hoping they had something ! 3) hmm i looked under the english departments and saw who was listed as in charge.. i think once when i did that, they directed me to contact HR but usually it was the english dept that hired directly and had contacted me 4) so i'm sure if you work in a big city (paris for example) your pass navigo would be covered partially like any job. this i can't fully answer -- i remember tho i looked into it, but bc i only work a few days a week, it would have been more expensive to get the monthly transport pass (via train) so i just buy each ticket (but using my carte jeune/local pass) and it's not expensive i hope this helps!! :) let me know if you have any other questions:) bisous !

Salut! I'm currently an assistant de langue interested in becoming a lecteur. The biggest difference to me seems to be the amount of responsibility for lesson planning. Do you have any advice or resources to help with that?
2 жыл бұрын
Salut ! yes, that's a big difference! hmm there are other lecteurs / lectrice at the uni so you can always share ideas/lessons with them and the other profs are a great resource as well:) students have responded well to making podcasts, TedTalks, debates, etc. ways to get them talking /practicing speaking skills is a big part of it. even if their class is usually designated more for writing, doing some questions (a' l'orale) on a theme for a bit of class time works great to get them practicing their speaking / pronunciation. hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions :) bisous !

How do you live on $1200 a month in France?! 😮
2 жыл бұрын
haha i don't live in a big city which helps with rent costs, and it's much more doable without a family / kids ! plus this job isn't for long-term, it can only be renewed once so a 2-year contract at most.
