Hello Shridhar, firstly thank you for making such videos on parenting. Actually I feel that at least someone is there in line with me about how to be a good parent. Means make your children or guide them to be independent. Now, when I am strict , that is for example I don't clean up their messy room but ask them to do it by themselves and just leave it as it is till evening or even a day or two..... people..... like my mom, in laws, sister etc. tell me that I am weird or going over board......or ask them to put off the light and fan when they come out of their room, ask them to get up and fetch water for themselves , or don't ever , not even a single time compromise on certain discipline that should be followed by all at home, people say that I am not being a proper mother. And not stopping with that they say that I act like a tyrant and that I'll regret it later in life .... because I will not be looked after, rather cared for properly by my sons during my old age. But I definitely differ from this kind of a conventional opinion. I know what I am doing is right and good for them. And when I am hard on them, I make it a point to talk to them and give them a proper understanding of what I mean and also I will make sure it has to be that way always...... like hospitality.... to greet our guests with a warm welcome and offer a glass of water..... respect for an individual person whoever they may be, respect for family and family time out , no lies will be tolerated, to talk the truth courageously. My sons do it , (even though they resist sometimes ) . Both my sons, ( they are 25 , 20 years old) are independent and can easily manage themselves. They are happy and proud that they are independent..., when most of their friends are not and cannot manage on their own, even little things, and worse they whine and rant about running errands and household chores. Now these relatives or friends they , instead of appreciating my sons, say that they are doing because they are forced to and they will retaliate in the future against me. They also accuse me of being a very strict and cruel mother, because my sons do their own errands and chores by themselves, when I should be doing it for them. I surely know that one cannot achieve anything by force . I believe in freedom and individuality. My sons think for themselves and do whatever they do, and I always have encouraged them in doing things their own way. They ask for help, my opinion, guidance whenever needed. Nowadays people find all this so different and weird. I feel that as a mother ( single parent) making them independent individuals is right and healthy for them. What is your opinion about this? Please reply when you find time, I would really like to know. Thank you.

This is wonderful advice; very sincere and I just love the way you have delivered it. Although we think we know how to be grateful for the things around us and what we have/ own we seldom thank the creator/ God/ provider for all that we have been given. When we see someone less fortunate, we take that moment to realize but the very next moment we move on with our thoughts back to being a person with no gratitude. When I was growing up, I had to earn everything I wanted from my parents. That thought me to be grateful as a person. Till a certain age I was pampered after which if I needed a new cycle or new toy I had to earn it by either taking up a responsibility at home or getting good grades at school. There were no if's or but's around this. If I failed to comply, they would just ignore my request and let me be with my tantrums. As always thank you for sharing such an informative and educative talk with us

Sir ... I've been so many times 😭 hurt my mom after getting angry according to situation 😢..but after watching ur vedeo..I feel regret for my mom ..I actually don't no what the value of parents... Even they fullfill our all wishes n desire..but now I learnt something which is very important for every child they don't care for their supportive parents now a days it's very common. Because of they spend so many times wid mob.phone...like social media. N also they lots of thinking abt their personal life (love).. they have no time for parents even they always available for us.. seriously sir.. I'll definitely share ur vedeo with my friends n relative also so that they can understand what they have done n doing now.. Plz.. make more vedeos on family. And mother spclly... cause nobody so much care for her. Finally ur msg inspired me☺️.

It indeed shows that it's important that we must inculcate this feeling of gratitude amongst children. I can relate the feeling that develops in my parents on my behaviour towards them. Nevertheless, it's important for parents as well to have this feeling of gratitude in them, they do so much for their children and that's undeniable but doing things merely for making a point that that are doing a favour to them is wrong. In my toughest times I had by myself taken an education loan doing a favour to my parent it was their duty to do this on their own which they didn't. Now that I have graduated and I am not in that position to pay it back, they don't talk to me. Had I bagged a decent campus placement they would have been bragging it all around that it was them who made this possible and not my hard deeds but now they don't talk to me.

From the day I was born till this day I was always under the care of some adult or in the hostel, other than my parents who are still alive . I am craving for their love but I very well know that I will not get it. 😔 I keep thanking them for all that they have done for me.. BUT WILL I GET THEIR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE?? Now I am 60 yrs. I Don't know what a mother's or father's love is..........It is very painful Mr Shridhar. But I sincerely take care of their needs and when they are hospitalized............

This is great sir. I'm a single parent. It would be great if u give some inputs on raising a child without the feeling of being left out . She's also a problem child. I Want to help her out to stand up for herself very confident yet not rough or angry in terms of her reactions if she hears on her defaults.( Shes just 2 yrs now and Is not much aware of what's different about her ). I'd be grateful if there's a video about single-parenting as well. Thank u sir.

I have seen this very often. In our culture we have a huge issue with gratitude and narcissism. Issue and confusion. Gratitude is not the same as narcissism. Similarly, I have seen many people get very uncomfortable with apologies - the general attitude seems to be "if we have a close relationship, then we shouldn't express gratitude or apology to each other". Which is so unhealthy! No wonder there are so many comments about gratitude turning parents into narcissists, in this section!

It feels like you are teaching parents to become narcissistic. Unconditional love does not work like this. A parent shouldn't expect gratitude from their child. I have little to be grateful for with my parents because they believed everything they did was perfect and that I should be grateful for whatever I got from them. I should be grateful for the emotional, verbal, and physical abuse I received. Love your child. Teach them to be grateful in general, not about how amazing you are. If they are raised well and with the right kind of love, unconditional love, they will have gratitude.

Ye tbh i believe he didnt said those rly to suport narcs (it doesnt excuse him but kinda underatandable) he rly forget some parents just cant be good like usually if ur kid cant say one good thing about his dad prob the problem aint the child and forcing them to try it will juat make a loop of anger

Your lack of intellect and wisdom is causing you to not realize that unconditionally spoiling your child won’t help your child, it will HURT them. You SHOULD set conditions on your approval of your child. Unconditional love does NOT equal unconditional approval

try to explain things to your in-laws, and your husband clearly, explain how stressful you are being in that situation. Some can understand and some cant, i know you were worried about them but you have to take a decision ultimately. May be try to live separately for sometime, to make them realise the gravity of the situation.

What if it is vice versa... A father always busy in his world of work and trying to escape all the responsibilities as a father to his son when the son looks upon him for help and guidance. But the father is busy in mending up his all the time work trouble. All the help the son gets is only from the mother which is limited. What will you say in such scenario? And in this case the son is the most humble and down to earth human being.
