Melanie thank you thank you. My highly active and smart Aussie girl is at the tail end of her enforced rest due to spay. Needless to say she is going a little stir crazy--me too. So I taught her twirl and twist this am to keep her mind going and we both had a blast. Looking forward to teaching her more steps asap. My Aussie and I say you are a treasure for sharing with us.

The only bad thing I can say about this video, and I really think it could because she was making a video and trying to keep it into a time frame than maybe an actual training session, is that she didn't make the dog go fully around all the time and allowed a lot of half turns, but she can fine tune that as well.

My dog gets scared of my hand when i turn it over his head, he was abused and is very scared. But he is very smart and if he gets it he will learn it in a day, does someone have tips?
@Ninichan10008 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but I would work on his fear of hands being above his head first. Try to take it slow and slowly move your hand towards the top of his head where he can still slightly tolerate it - if he stays still/behaves the way you want him to, reward him. Then slowly start to take it further and reward him for the small steps. Move your hand very slowly and maybe try talking to him in a calm tone of voice to keep him calm. This way he will learn that hands over his head is a good thing (AKA he gets a reward if he tolerates it) and you can slowly fade out the reward until he is used to it. If, no matter how much effort you put into it and how small the steps are, he still overreacts, try to take a step back. If you feel like you can not get him over his fear, try to lure him with your hand coming from under his chin to the side of his head, this usually doesn't scare dogs as much. I'm sure your dog is smart enough to understand the concept that you will not hurt him and even give him a treat once in a while when your hand is above him. Good Luck :) I would love to hear if you can make process with him.

Getting something more stronger, I was using some dog treats but my Pomenarian wasn't really interested, he tried for a little while, I then brought in some chicken and he was bouncing all over the place! Use something that gets your dog excited

I do the same thing to my dog. I give him treats when he does the spins but he runs somewhere because he distracted what should I do please make A video how to make a dog not getting distracted :)

Nice video !. the reason for why your dog was slower to lern the twist command, i think is becuase its very similar to Sit. He kept sitting down everytime you said twist. Id reccomend using a different comamnd than twist :=).

Excellent moves. Liked that your Aussie appeared to be JUST LEARNING these moves, as you made video. Nothing's worse than watching some ego-high trainers, showing off how smart THEY ARE when their dogs work perfectly on camera. I'm sure you practiced before hand but the one situation which stops people who want to learn, from continuing training (even Basic Obedience) is, frustration when the dog doesn't ALWAYS get it right after a few minutes. Any dog person worth their "chops" knows, key is, PATIENCE, REPEAT, PATIENCE, REPEAT, ad infinitum! I've been training my own dogs the usual & some weird tricks for 35 yrs...and the one constant is, ANY DOG WILL LEARN WHAT YOU WANT, as long as PATIENCE & REPETITION IS GIVEN. Also, just mention 1 issue pls? NEVER WORK A PUPPY MORE THAN 15-20 minutes /session without giving them immediate playtime with you, after the"work". I'm an old broad who really enjoyed (& worked vicariously with you.) GOOD JOB-WELL DONE-now go give yourself a treat too!

may I ask you a question? I was advised to exercise my dog prior the training. What would you recommend me? thank you!
@GrungeEmo8 жыл бұрын
Wow, if your dog doesn't get tricks first try, doesn't mean someone else's dogs doesn't. I've had dogs who got tricks down pat just as fast as this dog. She LOVED learning them and sometimes learned 3 in 1 day because she got them down THAT fast. Don't put people down because you can't get the same results.
@GrungeEmo8 жыл бұрын
Also, I'd like to add that its clear she trained this dog with other tricks, so it likely already knows that clicker means good, so this dog is probably more prone to learn new tricks faster because she knows what clicker means and that its on the right track.

you were adding the twist hand cue too late which is why he wasn't picking it up. needs to be paired when first training
@darinstubbs27407 жыл бұрын
maybe he took longer to twist because it kinda sounds like sit
