There are a lot of different ways to approach hitting. However, after doing my best to teach my daughter the concepts of Richard's swing, she showed dramatic improvements, and it worked for her. I appreciate this guy's videos and willingness to explain his techniques for those of us at home.

@Bobby I don't know if I just have a better understand of physics in general from my schooling and day job, but I picked up what Richard was saying after about 5 or 6 of his videos at 1am on a random Tuesday. I understood it so well, I went out in the garage and hit till 2am. It worked so well off the tee, I almost got my 12 y/o and 11 y/o out of bed to start swinging like this. I didn't get them up, but man I really wanted to. The next day, just like me (we are very visual folk), the boys started smoking the ball of the tee with a much higher bat exit velocity. I have The pocket radar so I set it up in the garage to measure and verify. Honestly, I think Richard is right. Freakin' Holy Grail of Hitting man. He is articulating what only a few have truly figured out. Wild. My boys are perennial all-stars in their leagues before these hitting lessons, they are gonna be much better after this.

Not sure he is into exit velocity but launch quickness instead?

Ted Williams talked about bat quickness 60 years ago we’re still trying to catch up to what he says

Any instructor can tell you that there is a big difference between "actual" and "perceived". I have watched videos of both Mike Trout and Alex Rodriguez that will tell you, then try to demonstrate how they claim to swing from high to low in a "chopping" type of motion, when in all actuality, they do nothing close to that. There was also a very revered MLB hitting instructor by the name of Walt Hriniak that taught the same motion. You can watch as many videos of great hitters that you like and you will NEVER see anybody swing from high to low. I think the ability to use video and frame by frame breakdown to analyze hitting has allowed us to see what these great hitters ACTUALLY do.

Not sure I agree with everything he said particularly the tilt, but there's a lot of good info to pull out of here. Can't say the same with Frye.

I taught my 11 year old teacher man swing and he has had his best two games of season going 6 for 7. He hadn't hit in first 4 games of season before this. If only I had this when I was a kid 😢. Great job Teacher man!

I always had fast bat speed as a player. I could always hit bombs at the driving range ... I kind of did this. Coiled. But dropped my hands and leveled the bat instead of snapping it back w force ... when I tried snapping it back. Staying on my back leg more and landing slightly open ... just letting the bat rubber band around ... it felt amazing. Now I am just trying to instruct it to an 8 yr old that really isn't all that instructable.

There are line drives that can be hit closer to the ground. They kind of have this kinda hovering effect over the ground. I’ve seen Stanton hit balls like that

only a few single hitters can play today such as Tony Gywnn and Wade Boggs but i 100 percent agree with Rich

Haha I doubt Fletcher will hit 20 more HRs the rest of his career. Dude can barely get the ball out of the infield.

He never says ken Griffey jr😂 he was absolutely the best hitter baseball has ever seen he wasn’t big but still outhit everyone for the amount of games he played and hit balls so far. if not for injuries he would be the best hitter and he didn’t swig like anyone teaches. If you practice your swing enough it doesn’t matter you will be good if your athletic enough.

i mean, its only your opinion that Jr was the best hitter of all time. I loved Griffey also, but that's still just an opinion.

I like what this guy teaches but I think Richard Schenck biggest fault is assuming everyone rotates around the rear hip. Everyone has a different body type and someone can coil around the rear foot, front foot, and around their center (between front and back leg). Biomechanics takes in consideration body type.

His concept can be used by everyone though. It may look slightly different but the bat path and initiation are what seem most important to me. I've been working on his swing style with my 11 year old and he was able to catch on and have that ah ha moment he talks about after a few swings. He had been struggling to hit all season and since using teacherman swing he's went 6 for 7 over last 2 games with his biggest hit ever. You really do need to swing the bat to get the feeling he explains. When you do it correctly the bat swing with what seems like zero effort.

i agree that everyone has different biomechanics. I tried to look like the big leaguers coiling in the hip, but with my Range of motion, I never really felt a stretch in the back. I turned my back foot so my toes pointed more towards first base instead of parallel to the lines in the box (i'd say maybe 15 to 20 degrees) and when I sat into my glute, I could feel the coil. Really helped me stay back, and clear the hips on the inside pitch. Long story short - I 2nd the sentiment that everyone is different.

I left out the reason for the rear foot angle - I could feel the stretch when I was parallel, but when I coiled, I'd have to strain my neck over my shoulder to keep eyes on ball. The angle allowed me to level both eyes on the pitch without pulling an exorsist with my neck.

It's a pity no one can describe what he is trying to get across. If he were to go to a good gym instructor they would be able to help him out. If I understand him correctly regarding the rear hip, then what he is describing is, make sure your core is properly engaged and utilize your deep hip rotators to maintain tension (by externally rotating the leg) until it is overpowered in the swing. It does feel like you are leaning a little back, towards the catcher and rotating around the rear of the femoral head. It has a very snappy feel when you groove it. I like it. Thanks
