I watched this film when I was about ten and my school did a presentation on how animation works. It was one of the animated shorts they showed us. I remember liking it from back then, especially how it went from "character chasing another character" gag to "now they are peaceful side by side". It fascinated me, and I looked it up all those years later. I'm so glad I was able to get a view of the creator and what he thought about that film that I am fond of nearly twenty years later. But it was also fun to see him call the monk a "nice blob" XD

He is my inspiration. I hope The Red Turtle win this year's Oscar. Even if it doesn't, his talent is undeniable. He is one of the best animator alive.

Really? There is no metapher in this story? I mean, Monk, Fish... both symbols for religion. First men hunt and deny the religion and in the end (in death) they become fond of each other. That's my take on it. But Micheal says, there is no such motive? I doubt it.

He didn't say there was no metaphor. An artist shouldn't explain their motives, or else the work loses its strength.
