I'd love to see a sequel to this, or even a whole series! I'd love to see Valbjorn teach us how to create swords, and maybe some of the more complex sculpting (e.g. hair, high-detail work) in a way that's approachable to beginners!
@axcel91288 күн бұрын
He has a patreon where he has lots of in depth tutorials
@BenChmark1_8 күн бұрын
@axcel9128 I saw in the outro - this was a great preview of his expertise, I'll definitely check it out! I know YT isn't going to make as much money as a patreon, but it's a lot more approachable, so I appreciate Valbjorn putting some of his skill out there for free as well. I particularly liked the format in this video of student + teacher in this video because Scott asked questions that I've had about sculpting before during the process.
@Vlad_The_Imposter8 күн бұрын
This was great. I like the format of having someone who is a beginner to ask clarification on things he wouldn't think to mention because they seem obvious to him. More like this.

I love seeing these celebrity guest appearances! First Squidmar gets Harry Potter and now you've got Dave Mustaine!?! So cool! Watches video. Hears other name. Refuses to change original perception.
@EnderLord0078 күн бұрын
I really like that this video starts on some finer points of using a file. If this were a tutorial it would be all too easy to just say “file the haft so it’s a little bit oval shaped” and be done with it. Going over material choice, the objective of what you’re doing, some historical context, and how to make the tool actually work for you is a lot of really good info.
@tannergee8 күн бұрын
Its fun to see the pro helps noob you've done a number of times, but in reverse. Especially since this isnt your usual medium, its not more painting, its a new addition to the hobby. Love it

My first attempts at sculpting were clumsy but because I was doing basic nurgle stuff, it was OK. I briefly spoke to a gw sculptor at games day 99, and he showed me how you could make boils in cracked skin by pressing a retracted ball point pen into the green stuff, then use knife blade to draw a few cracks radiating outwards from the boils. It was simple but added a lot to my 3.5 edition nurgle marines.

Wow! Really good teacher AND Scott, you’re a really good student! Asking good questions and sculpting bravely. It is very clear that you completely trust Valbjorn’s competence to pull you back out if you get yourself into trouble, or be alert enough to warn you in good time before it happens. Man, I’d definitely go on a weekend intensive with this dude! Thank you for sharing.

Oh man, I really enjoyed this. Val was a fantastic guest teacher…his passion for the topic really transmits and he has such a great, empathetic way of teaching. This was so great, very cool to get some insight into his hobby flow. Also I feel like there was great stuff to take away for every part of the hobby , especially that intentionally slowing down part. I know I sometimes struggle when going from basecoating to layering when painting and end up going in way too strong, I really should have this approach where I start with something that will remind me to change my pace.

7:50. I love that table Scott. Our DnD group bought an old beaten up pool table and we are ready to get it converted for play. We are planning on having a shell that will be suspended above the table that can be brought down to rest on top via a pulley system. Proper old fashioned chains are definitely a requirement. Hahaaaa!

I really enjoyed watching this video,. The pacing of it was fantastic, slowing down helped get the feel of the time it takes, and time that is needed to hand sculpt. It's not a quick process but is relaxing and rewarding. Once again, I love that the edit suited the video and wasn't edited to a template just to hit a deadline. One of my favourite videos Scott.

This is my second time around with painting minis, having come back via scale models (le mans style cars). What i love about some of the kits was adding in more engine detail, using interesting materials, and now i bring that to my astral bear space marines. I used to do hair, facial hair, weapon mods and hats for my 40k armies 20y ago. But now am doing bear pelts, cloaks, standards for my ancients..... It's a lot of fun experimenting. Some of the finer details on those kit bashes are just amazing! Would love to see more of how to do that, especially the handles on the axes. Great video guys!

Just a little note - I really came to like sculpting with 3d printing resin. I mix it with baby powder in different consistencies, apply, cure with UV lamp, and I can immediately sand, carve, etc. I started just fixing mistakes but it really works wonders for adding hair strands and what not :D
