I like your logic in training. Asking your horse to turn in the direction they are already going.👍👍 I like to train my horse in tiny, small steps. She seems to remember her training better.

Every time I watch your videos, I am amazed at how quiet your horses are. Thanks for making it (your way) so easy to understand.

That is sneaky! Sliding the cue in so the horse starts to associate the cue with what they are doing.

It's very useful! I was teaching my horse to go forward with a kick. It was not going well. I noticed he would follow the horse in the next camp. When I moved over camps to be nearer to the other horse, it clicked for him when I kicked.

Are you using legs? at the same time? Or just rein?

Do you always use a whip aid to tap the horse forward? What is your thought with using it-when would you use it and when would you not use it? Thank you.

Hi Mr. Warwick. Thank you for the good video. I have 2 questions. You were talking about how you need forward before you can turn and you wouldn’t advise picking up one rein and asking a younghorse to go somewhere from a standstill. I know colt starters who, when their horses won’t go forward on the ground, will pull on one side of the halter or bridle until the horse moves the front feet and walks off to the side. Even under saddle, if a horse refuses to go forward, they will flex them around and kick to disengage the hindquarters to create movement and then let the horse out going forward. What do you think of this approach to getting a young horse to go forward that involves steering? Secondly, I know people who, when breaking horses, don’t teach much steering with the reins but use the seat and legs to steer the hind end by putting pressure in rhythm with the hind legs. So the horses learn to steer from behind but they don’t follow their head if you pick up on one rein. What do you think of this method of steering for the very green/ just backed horse? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with the world.

Are you doing anything with your legs or seat bones when asking for a turn or bend?
@WarwickSchiller3 ай бұрын
Not at this point, its all about the feel of the rein

but what would you do when your horse just walks to the gate and nowhere else, i can not ride my mare in the arena because i would have to fight hard with her to ride away from the gate..
@WarwickSchiller3 ай бұрын
Dont ask her to go away from the gate, just ask her to go.

@@WarwickSchiller thank you for your answer, but if i do that like i learned in your videos, she wil litterally try and go throu the gate.. she is a Drafthorse and i dont want to risk her distroying the property of the barn i do not own ^^'

@@lalisabee1351 Get her to work at the gate. Turn her head, if she won't go anywhere just get her to circle around and around. When she gets sick of it, let her walk AWAY from the gate and relax over there

How can a loose breast collar keep a saddle on?
@avikasixfour23623 ай бұрын
In case of emergency. At least what I've been told by many old style trainers. If the horse spooks and yeets the rider the saddle won't flop to the belly with breastcollar and looser cinch. And lots of horses are set off by tight cinch
@sidilicious113 ай бұрын
@@avikasixfour2362 oh. Thanks for that. I know how bad a wreck can happens when a saddle slips under the belly of a green horse first hand.
