I appreciate your honesty. I moved to Bogotá from the US found a teaching position after I arrived. I went with an agency as well but no fees were involved. I do have to pay for my visa ($300) but will be reimbursed after 6 months.

Just watched your video. I'm also a teacher based in NY but orogonally from the Philippines. I've always thought of going to TH someday and teach there as well while travel at the same time. What happened to you now? Are you still in Thailand?

Great video. Im not sure why people hire agencies. Get your certificate, have $5K in savings and move there and find a school that will take care of your visa for you. Thousands of dallars saved.

Agreed. You just have to trust the process. I met a guy on Facebook who lives in Thailand he said the same thing. Stop trying to get a job from abroad, plan to get there, get there and find an English teaching job.

@@AndrzejC Sure, you can try that approach. I can see why the schools want you in Thailand. It’s a lot of work for them, paperwork, red tape, etc.

I’m qualified, with a TEFL cert, a B.A., and teaching experience in South Korea. But here’s the thing: I’m 68! Could I find a job there at my age? I’m not looking for sporadic under-the-table gigs but seek something legal and steady. Is it possible at my age? Or will I face serious headwinds? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Really? I am an native born American citizen and I began teaching in Thailand at age 55 and continue to do so at age 70. I engage in fully legal employment. One of my British colleagues is 75 and one of my Canadian colleagues is 77. Both are legally employed as English language instructors in Bangkok. If you are a native English speaker with proper high level university degrees coupled with professional certifications, age is NOT a barrier to employment in the field of Education in Thailand.@@marcanthonyskidmore4131

I wanna teach in Thailand! But I really want to go and just apply in person because I heard that’s the most cost effective. Did you ever meet or know anybody that did that? Just bring all the proper paperwork and just try to apply in person? Also for the lesson plans, do they expect those lesson plans made before you even start? Do they check

I feel like we are in a similar boat ⛵ I'm 39 and from California, how about you? It's hard to get clear guidance on these things and the visa situation seems daunting. My fear would be going over there and thinking I'll get a job and stay long term only to be jobless and the visa expires. Overstaying is NOT an option either because that can result in a permanent ban from the kingdom. I suppose if that happened Cambodia is next door and they have the option to teach English with much less requirements and less strict on visas. Although my main issue there is lack of good healthcare and access to clean water. The savings are still there when compared to the West overall but strangely eating out can be expensive in Cambodia from what I've been observing online. The people are wonderful there though no doubt. Do you plan on teaching English forever as a long term career? I wonder when teachers eventually experience burnout or if A.I. will revolutionize the industry causing massive layoffs in a decade or so? I wonder so much about these things 🤔

@@Kn1ghtMan I taught in Thailand for 2 years in 2010/11. I taught IELTS and Toeic IBT test prep. It's pretty easy. I worked 16 hrs a week and earned 51000 baht a month which was about 1000 quid back then. My living expenses were about 200 quid so I saved quite a lot without trying. I even got a brace and fixed my teeth. Their hospitals are fine and cheap. I'm pretty sure I drank tap water and didn't get sick. I was lucky getting a well paid, easy job. I only looked online because they had a military coup and lots of westerners went home. I had a skype interview then jumped on a plane. They got a lawyer to go with me to immigration and he whizz ed me thru. I think thats normal. I heard it's more expensive now and immigration is stricter. But its still possible. And flying and getting a job shouldn't be too difficult if u have a bit of experience and r presentable. Check out Ajarn.com for job listing. This video is an ad and its probably a ripoff.

@@nickdemiri3529you don’t get paid as much in Japan. However if you apply with the JET program (very competitive) you’ll be paid the most. I think Interac is the next best (mainly for people who got rejected from JET) but they pay way less and don’t even pay for your plane ticket.
