Hey Guys,
In part one, I talked about how I ended up in Saudi and the reactions of friends and family. If you haven't seen that video, link is below.
• Teaching in Saudi Arab...
In this part, I discuss my own concerns and what I was worried about before coming to Saudi. I talk about what life was like as a single female and what it was like living here. I also reflect on the year and if it was worth coming. I hope I answer all of your questions and concerns.
Let me know if there is anything you want me to discuss.
Comment, like, and share.
Thanks for watching!!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm planning to teach in Saudi next year so your video was a God-send. Quick question: Did you know Arabic when you went there? Can I live there without knowing the language too well?

This is helpful. I wonder if it will be more difficult for someone who doesn’t practice the main religion. I have taught ESL in Japan before, so I don’t have a problem adjusting to other cultures, but I don’t know if me not practicing the same religion would be a problem. Any advice?

Hi Kindra. Thank you for the feedback. Im glad this was helpful. A big chunk of my colleagues were not muslim and they said the transition into Saudi was easier than expected. The country has changed quite a bit within the last few years and its easier now for foreigners to live there. Hope that helps.

I have my MBA, older and interested in spending my time ESL teaching abroad. I do have 3 years teaching already. What certification did you get? CELTA or TEFL? Also when salary negotiation never give an amount first. Say "negotiable" on your application or if it won't let you put zero. You then know their bottom line and you can start at the very top.

Thanks for the tip. So I would recommend getting a CELTA. I have a Virginia Teaching License and taught in an international school. If you want to go into the ESL route, CELTA is the way to go now with the changes abroad and in Saudi.

I'm curious why the religious police aren't as active as before. What changed?

Good morning ,,, You have to understand that our constitution based on Islam as main source of rules of life. We do not have a police department called (religious police). There's a Ministry of Islamic Affairs Call and Guidance and there's a sub-sector called The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. Currently, the sub-sector what you call it religious police has two missions: 1- Guidance and advice locals & foreigners to respect, practice and introduce Islam to unbelievers. 2- Capturing illegal incidents (against Islamic laws) with HELP of public security & NOT by themselves. These incidents being informed from locals or residents Muslims. Nowadays people think religious police not exist any more & this is completely not true, you might not seeing them but they still work. I've been many times in one of local police station & see many reports about: 1- Locals & western foreigners been captured & jailed because they were drunk. 2- Girls & boys having parties together. 3- Prostitution & more. I know that in 2020 Saudi Arabia changed a lot, but there are basic things will not change. Foreigners are most welcome & you'll be treated better than in your home town but keep in mind to respect the culture & Islamic rules.

How can there be racism in Saudi Arabia if discrimination is forbidden in the Quran
@faay8912

The Quran is perfect but humans aren't so yeah you will see rotten people everywhere and Saudi is no exception but that doesn't reflect on islam that is individual to the person who is a racist.
