I covet men of the 60's and 70's that could go out and get a regular trade job, easily feed a family of 4 and come home to some amazing homemade cooking from the wife.. Not even a putdown to women. She (like most people learning a complicated manual skill like that) needed her own hands on the wheel. Teaching people to drive needs to be done with a calm voice and mostly positive reinforcement.

"Are you frustrated? Good." When she finally went on her own the intense look of concentration, sawing at the wheel and stabbing at the throttle is exactly what I remember drifting feeling like. One of the first dates with my lady finished with me "teaching" her to drift my old E36 in a snowy parking lot when she couldn't even drive a stick. She drifted pretty well for about 30 minutes until security came to tell us to stop. So awesome and relatable to see that pure sense of joy, concentration and reward. Great relationship building! I am still together with my lady now 12 years and 3 children later. Time to figure out how to get the minivan drifting. Or figure out how to get 3 child seats into that old Beemer.

As an American that grew up watching The Dukes of Hazard, I have been doing power slides on 3 a 4 wheelers and then transitioning to power slides in cars when I got my license at 15 in Mississippi in 1989. I was doing power slides in cars with low HP and open differential long before anyone ever uttered the phrase "drifting". High HP, limited slip/posi diff plus high angle steering is literally too easy to "drift".
