If I'm trying to teach someone I like to idle it up a bit if I need to and let them ease out on the clutch slowly with no throttle and just idle around in first pulling in the clutch and stopping, letting out slowly on the clutch again and repeat that idling around stopping and taking off with no throttle a while before even getting into giving it gas.giving it way to much throttle and crashing usually freaks people out and they don't even want to try anymore.then I teach them how to work the throttle and shift and downshift and so on but you can't stress low speed throttle control enough, people who don't know tend to give a quarter of the the throttle if you don't tell them be very gentle with as soon as things get jerky they freak out and do all kinds of crazy stuff.but very gentle take offs and stops just keeping it upright then going faster and shifting later.

1 easier way for a beginner to start off with the clutch is, just give it a bit more gas than idle with the clutch in, then let the clutch out slowly until it starts grabbing (but not stalling). Then hold the clutch lever there and slowly (just controlled), give it more gas and you will start rolling. Then flow the clutch out the rest of the way, (and ready to pull it in a bit if it bogs), as you continue giving it the gas. It is not taught anymore, but we used to keep a finger or two on the clutch and brake lever at all times (one is probably good with the ease of the levers today). If we were looping out, for one example, (ever do that whiskey throttle as you fall off the back of the bike?), our finger is on the clutch to control/cut the power to the wheel. it is harder to keep a finger on the controls with today's high handlebar set up from freestyle, and level levers. Your wrists would be bent a lot, inviting wrist injury.

If you bike is not stock with that upside down twist throttle cable housing, you should rotate it back up, and make sure the cable is routed correctly. Many people have had a stuck/pinched/kinked cable housing, stick the throttle when turning corners. I kind of liked the set up at first. It is not as vulnerable as it is on top, but it would also hit the top of my leg in right hand corners with my leg out, and I would not want my leg putting force on the end of that cable housing.

Well done young lady, 2 strokes can be a little troublesome to get used to at first. I owned two Italian two stroke racing bikes in my younger years, the Cagiva Mito 125 and the Aprilia RS125. The former I took naturally to it much to my surprise but the latter was more troublesome for me. The bike demanded more revs to get going compared to the Mito, I always felt like maybe I'd put it right through a wall at times, like 4000RPM just to get going but in the end it was all about finessing the clutch. It's all about the muscle memory, it'll come natural eventually.

i think a better way to teach how to get rolling is to show where the friction zone is by giving no gas allowing the bike to move on its own and then applying gas to go faster. its difficult for beginners to hold the throttle steady and simultaneously let the clutch out slowly

She done pretty good I dunno why she went so far for a ride after setting off when I was learning the clutch I just got rolling then stopped and got rolling then stopped it's the best way to learn the clutch faster. Once you're going there is no clutch needed as you know just for changing gear is all.
@EarthSurferUSA4 ай бұрын
On no my friend. Off road, the clutch is a great tool for controlling the power. Not used as much on 4-strokes, but still used. Those multi disk wet clutches can take a lot of abuse. The most extreme would probably be small bore 125cc or less 2-stroke bikes, where they pick a high gear going into a corner, pin the throttle (traction permitting), and feed the power out with the clutch, (trying to not bog in the higher gear). Cruising around on flat ground is one thing, but to help control the power in a lot of different situations, the clutch is a tool that takes some time to get good with, but is well worth it.

Millions of people don't Race, just ride trails or mess about in Quarries! Lil bro has to tell you more about clutch n gears, and I would say back brake only unless you're on tarmac. If lil bro teaches you how to stop quickly, then you can go at any speed you're comfortable with coz you know how to slow down and stop. Have fun both of you! ❤️✌️
@EarthSurferUSA4 ай бұрын
Nooo--front brake has very much most of the stopping power. You can race a bike with no back brake, but you won't be fast with out the front. The fact is, you can grab the front brake hard when you are not leaned over. You just let off a bit if it starts locking up and sliding out. You are still controlling the lever. Try this. When coming into a corner, and your straight, use the brakes aggressively, but pump the front lever like anti-lock brakes do. If you break traction a bit, you are letting off anyway. You can brake pretty hard in the beginning of a berm too, because your wheels are pretty perpendicular to the berm slope, but you are scrubbing your speed there. Leaned over on flatter ground? The more you are leaned over, the less braking you can do. But when you are vertical, you can get back and brake hard. It is usually best to use both at the same time, and downshift if needed.
