Hi Judy! I've taught private voice for over 17 years and classically trained throughout my undergrad, my master's and in between. I love how you talk about the jaw pull and pressing finger tips into each other. I've never heard of either of those, but they demonstrate the two mechanisms I often refer to with regard to loose and back jaw and creating a "house" with my rib cage. Great stuff! The only concern I personally have is the language with which you talk about certain concepts. When we talk about pulling or tug of war, it can create tension in the minds of a lot of new singers who have a tendency toward pushing and pulling and warring against their voices anyway. I like the 45 degree angle approach too. Thank you!

Great to hear from you, Reveal My Voice... I always love interacting with other vocal teachers and batting concepts about. I really appreciate your thoughts... and I do understand that the concept of pulling can be interpreted counter-productively. Still, when singers understand and apply it correctly, it has made incredible difference instantly in improving vocal ability and defeating vocal strain. I love your concept of 'creating a house' with ribcage, and that you also find value in loose back jaw. I'd love to chat with you further... if you'd be up for webcam meeting some time, please let me know!

Absolutely! That'd be great, Judy! And I'd be honored. I'm pretty steeped in the classical technique, but would like to appeal to a broader range of students who don't necessarily *want* to sing classical literature, but want the discipline and vocal health it offers. I also love that you addressed the lack of mixed voice most classical singers don't know how to employ. That is something I also try to address in my studio, but must admit that belting and pop styles are harder for me to demonstrate or relate to as a singer and voice teacher. Would love to chat! Do you do much FB live? Would be fun to set up a Q&A and chat on one of our FB pages. :)
