I can see the expression change at the mounting block. She may be realizing ‘oh! he knows what I know and he knows that I know he knows.

Just got a senior horse who has always, prior to now, been mounted from the ground. I can only mount from a m.block, so we have a real re-training issue. Thanks so much for the video.

I thought she looked gaited!! Whoo-hoo!!!!! My walkers have issues with backing, too. I appreciate you emphasizing that even short training sessions can be beneficial and working on monotonous things are still important.😊

I do teach my horses to queue up to the mounting block because I trail ride and can't move the log, stump, or boulder. As I age, it becomes more difficult to mount from the ground so I really value a horse that queues and that stands put during mounting (anddismounting) so I invest a fair amount of time working on that. When I worked for a trainer years ago, his clients were often fairly novice riders and often mounted clumsily (like I'm doing nowadays) so I taught those horses to stand stock-still until they were asked to move, even when I bumped their ribs and haunches as I mounted. That experience pays off for me now!

When I went to look at Eddie it was interesting trying to get mounted. He was always mounted from the ground and I need a mounting block to get up. The owner and his wife had to push and hold Eddie for me to mount. Once up I knew he was the horse for me. It took a lot of patience to get him to stand and wait at the block but it was well worth the time. Always enjoy and learn from your posts,thankyou

I realized I have been teaching my horse to go off of putting my leg in the right stirrup. He stands fine up until that, and I haven’t minded riding off. Recently he started walking away from the mounting block if I needed to adjust my helmet or my shoe on the ground, I should have noticed the little things, but now I know we can have fun working on that this weekend :)

I teaches my yearling to side up on the mounting block as part of the genteling and basic ground training. When the time came to start him under the saddle with 3, he was a pro, he knew me standing above and he knew the pouting block us a good place to be. I think when you train your youngster while growing up there is more than enough time to establish good behavior long befor the first time mounting. But of course, Tim don't have the time for that with client horses. But I was waiting 2 years for the ride, why not use the time wisely 😉

You are so right about spending the time working on problems. Sharing your knowledge makes it seem like a simple priority. Time is such a precious thing in everyone's life. Your time and teaching are priceless. What I would have given to know these things when I started my horse years. The equine Angeles watched over me back then! Thank you, two! ❤❤❤ 😊

Just as with dog training. If they never make the mistake in front of you, you cannot correct the mistake. For trainers I suspect it is common for horse to respect and behave differently for the trainer compared to with owner. Hard for trainer to correct issue working only with the horse when issues are 90%+ with owner/rider. If issue is mostly rider, sometimes knowing this allows trainer to desensitize horse to owners mistake - though as rider I’d prefer they help me fix my mistakes.
@timandersonhorsetraining7 ай бұрын
Yes that is true. That is why I try to get the owners to come so I can work with them and their and their horse together which this owner has been doing.

I have heard you say several times before that you want to "trick" the horse into making a mistake, bc if they do not do the behavior when they are with you , how will you fix it. What did she spook at, was it the cat again?
@timandersonhorsetraining7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what she spooked at. I think I moved and she wasn't paying attention. That was unusual for her.

I don't train to stand at a mounting block as I don't carry one around when I'm trailering or out rounding up cattle.

Yea, he says he has asthma, but he really should consider a microphone that won't pick up on every breath sound .. it seems like a too sensitive mike more than the breathing...
@timandersonhorsetraining7 ай бұрын
So I have tried 6 different mics, do you have a suggestion?
@melindaharrington75887 ай бұрын
If that, is all you both have to worry about. Then, you mustn't have much worries. Tim has only 37 percent lung function. He has mentioned that, many times on different video's. I am just grateful, that busy people like Tim and Malinda, even bother to make these video's. When he is so busy with horse's coming in for training and leaving, then new ones coming in etc. Enjoy the video's, for what they are.
