So is it fair to say that black generally wants to castle on the opposite side of the board as white? Or is it just that castling opposite leads to a more open game and isn't inherently advantageous for black or white necessarily?
@skye275 Жыл бұрын
Opposite side castling usually leads to more dynamic attacking games as each side is able to throw their pawns at the others king
@sietsejohannes Жыл бұрын
Neither. It can happen in open and closed positions and benefit black or white. It usually leads to both players trying to "storm" the castled enemy king with their flank pawns and an advantage to the person who can attack the king the fastest.

Question: at 27:25 Levy says that when you have all your pawns on, say, dark squares, you're vulnerable to attacks from the opposite-square bishop. But at some point earlier in the video he says that if you trade away your bishop of a given color, you *should* put your pawns on that color because you've lost the piece that would otherwise be able to protect those squares. So I'm confused. What are the situations where should you structure your pawns on the squares of the color of the bishop you've lost?
@willsheekey77474 жыл бұрын
they are unrelated scenarios i think. the main point i think he was trying to make was that whenever you lose your own bishop of a specific colour, you should aim for your pawn chains to be on that colour. also, going on similar logic, if the opponent has only one bishop, try to limit its mobility through creating pawn chains on squares of that particular colour. FYI tho I'm only 1200 rated so take this all with a grain of salt lol
