Thank you so much for your help in untying my knot 🪢. I thought that I have to finish Ngondro first before I would be qualified for the “higher” teaching. The number in Ngondro practice stresses me out because it would take years to finish the whole thing on top of my bill-paying-regular job. It’s nice to know that I don’t have to finish Ngondro before attending these teaching. It sounds like all I need are pure perception and devotion toward the person who gives the empowerment. Thanks goodness these two criteria don’t involve numbers in hundred of thousands 😅. I hope that I have enough merit to be able to take off of work to attend the next sessions of the empowerment somewhere in Europe for Southeast Asia 😊 🙏🙏🙏

It’s said that the higher teachings will be not effective without the preliminary practices. I have heard that great masters still practice Ngondro late into their lives. So you shouldn’t look down on or ignore the preliminary practices.

@@sangay4469 I do plan to finish Ngondro because I aspire to receive Mahamudra after that. But for the empowerment, Rinpoche doesn’t mention anything about finishing Ngondro and he seems to dislike when anyone bringing up number in Ngondro with him so I figure I can receive the empowerment for now since I don’t know if he ever will give out again. I can practice deity only if I have received empowerment, otherwise I cannot proceed. I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ it still have to depend on if I have enough merit because if the next two event fall within days cannot take off of work then I cannot come 😔 I wish Rinpoche would say something about this. If he says, finish Ngondro first then I would be happy to do that.

All great masters, including Rinpoche's gurus Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Dudjom Rinpoche, regards the "preliminary" practices as the most profound. Without this very solid basis, any of the "higher" practices rest on shaky grounds and are doomed to collapse. Don't fool yourself, don't let your ego take over your journey. There's nothing more profound than taking refuge and generating bodhicitta. From lifetime to lifetime, this is what you want to genuinely cultivate in your mindstream.

Thank you for all of your kind concerns. I think you all have a valid point. Personally, I have zero doubt that Ngondro alone would do the job. I do plan to finish the Ngondro and repeat. But for some odd reasons, seeing Rinpoche's aging stresses me out. I have been receiving/listenting/watching Rinpoche's KZbin teaching videos for a few years with no plan of seeing him in person. But that one teaching titled Human Relationship where he cough throughout the teaching, that triggered my anxiety so bad that I arranged the whole trip to Canada in the middle of the winter to receiving empowerment (don't worry, event description did mentioned "tantra" but didn't mention it's a "higher" teaching so I technicially qualified). To be brutally honest, I didn't come for the empowerment because of the dieties themselves, probably not the appropriate way to approach the teaching 😬. I just want to establish some karmic link with Rinpoche in this vast samsaric ocean before impermanence happens so somewhere down the line in lifetimes ahead, he would appear again to teach me about Shunyata, relative truth, ultimate truth ect...I am aware of my laziness/proscratination, so I need some kind of "karmic-link" insurance 😅 Anyways, I think I should stick with Ngondro for now and stay home. To me, I am happy to remain practiced than having which form of practice although I do aspire to receive "higher" some day 🙏🙏🙏
