Building a desk with teak legs. Nice blonde and brown color to it and funky smell. Amazing wood when you can get the real deal.

You know it... Good teak aint cheap...at all. Today teak is $30-$45 a board foot and the other fake teak can be alot cheaper. Good hardwoodis around $9 a board foot. Yaa def., look for the stain and grain. IDK wtf they send but its wood like Sissoo /Sheesham, Shorea, Sal, plantation teak or Grade C teak which is weak teak. If you see blonde streaks thats not good teak or its something else. When you see alot of blonde in the wood its def., not teak. Even old good brown teak aroma is awesome when sanding and cutting....

Lots of my jobs is giving the owners the bad news... Generally they don't believe me. Nobody wants to feel like they have been slighted, or tricked I guess. And I so agree with your comment about the smell of teak. Sanding old brown teak is the highlight of my day everytime I get to do it. Thanks for dropping a comment Be well friend

I saw an ad on Craigslist - someone GIVING away a 'solid teak' dining table. Of course I ran over. The top was a bit marked up, but what the hell, right? The freaking thing was a teak grain printed onto fiberboard. The legs were hardwood maybe even teak, but when I started sanding the skirt, it was a printed on grain again over really low grade pine. I bet that person who gave it to e bought it as teak and believed she had a teak table all the time. Chinese fakery.

yea unfortunately teak now seems to be a brand name rather than a statement of fact . I constantly have customers with "teak" furniture and I have the unpleasant task of giving them the bad news, Surprisingly I'd say 40-50% of the time they don't believe me . I've long since given up trying to argue I just agree and say "yea you are right. it's my mistake" and take their money to restore their "teak" furniture... what are you going to do, right?
