This game seems like it could be really interesting but I can barely ever tell what it is I'm looking at. Genuinely hard to feel any type of way about the characters and stuff during gameplay

100% this. the game is so well made but it has a wacky playstyle that hides everything and doesnt show anything or tell anything

Well almost all of them are managed by sound cues so it's really hard to appreciate especially if it's not always visually present like other FNAF/fan games that you always saw at cameras.
