holy knight that's not true their alliance had some stratigic mistakes and GreyBots 973 had a better shooter then 118 and 1678 in the finals, so you can't realy say they should've won it
@holyknight51
@holyknight51 7 жыл бұрын
When the largest difference is made in penalties, I would argue for yes they should have won, granted with penalties and with the red climb, they still would have lost finals 1, finals 2 was a different story.
@asafhanoch9941
@asafhanoch9941 7 жыл бұрын
If their penealty is for being in the other's team retrival zone or something like that than it's a stratigic mistake and thus they were not worthy of winning. Roebling played the game perfectly

@amirbutcher2147
@amirbutcher2147 7 жыл бұрын
As someone who wasn't there, I must say they must have had some vital strategic mistakes with a robot this well-designed. My team's robot doesn't even have a shooter, but the strategy and operation of our drive team ensured that we are currently at World's in St. Louis. Whether or not we're to win is, of course, to be determined. I mean, I'm fully aware of an otherwise good robot having the game totally thrown on them because of the mistakes of their allies, but it sounds like 118 themselves got the penalty? Can that get cleared up?

@chadkrause6574
@chadkrause6574 7 жыл бұрын
Simon Barbarasch well, I'll tell you this: watching how people solve problems uniquely and how they apply different mechanical and software solutions is really helpful. I didn't work on the robot design, but now I know how to design and what to look for. These engineers are teaching these kids the best of the best stuff
@simonbarbarasch7169
@simonbarbarasch7169 7 жыл бұрын
i dont deny that at all. I'm sure these kids are learning vastly more information than I am on my student driven team with only 4 mentors.
@chadkrause6574
@chadkrause6574 7 жыл бұрын
Simon Barbarasch don't say that. The 118 team has practically unlimited budget and resources. Your team (I assume) doesn't. So you have to design and build around those challenges which is just as helpful. Like we had a CNC router and tons of plastic so ours had tons of plastic parts. Other teams have water jets and welders and such. So your team's experience is just as valuable as theirs are. When you get older and have a job, you'll have a budget, and your members will be able to work better with that.

You know, I'd try to avoid the un-GP. I've never been to Texas, but I have interacted with 118 on numerous occasions. They are a class act - especially their students. Please come back when you're willing to consider that a team is good not because of circumstances, but because of the dedication and ingenuity of their students. 118, thanks for inspiring.
@ChadEichhorn
@ChadEichhorn 7 жыл бұрын
every year people hate on 118, saying stuff like this. let's be clear: yes, they have a lot of money. yes, they have very qualified mentors. no, the mentors do not do everything for the students. i met some people from 118 a few years back, they have brilliant students behind the bots, capable of making them so extraordinary because of the resources they have access to. i wish my team also had that kind of opportunity, but the rules do a good job of keeping things even enough that an equally well designed bot with less funding can still compete with them.
@Therealmvenner

NASA sponsors so many teams. just because a few of them are successful doesn't mean the mentors build the robots.

Do they have two robots? Or is the blue one just an older one and the modifications are minimal with gold colored metal on the newer red one. Sorry just curious cause I assumed they just change the red and blue between matches but since I'm in FTC I very well may be wrong but it would also be dumb to have to build two robots for each alliance.

Most teams will build two identical robots: one that gets bagged for competition and the other for refining code and practicing driving after the build season ends.
@LegionStriker
@LegionStriker 7 жыл бұрын
They build them at roughly the same time, although silver is the one that is tested on at first. Any modifications are reflected on the gold robot, which is the final version to be used at the competition. Building two robots allows you to partially circumvent the 6-week build limit as well. You can't touch the real robot, but you can still practice on and modify anything else.

Simon Barbarasch they have full access to all of JSC's machining capabilities. Most of the aluminum is cut with a water jet. They also have access to a huge 3D printer, advanced molding materials and a vacuum chamber, lots of milling, and a custom anodizing mix. The robot is designed in Pro/E and if Anthony is still there, Illustrator. Simulations are rare but the on-board analysis software for Pro/E is used. Source: alumni.

Great Robots and video!!! Please share information, where can we buy the gold tubing (appears to be 3/4" O.D.) and corner tube connection fittings that the gold tubing are attached to? Many Thanks.
@LegionStriker
@LegionStriker 7 жыл бұрын
The corner fittings are custom 3d printed. The gold tubing is just standard hollow aluminum tubing but anodized gold.

Isn't that fire rate faster than the boiler can handle? (5 balls per second)
@MrXenboss
@MrXenboss 7 жыл бұрын
you have to include the capacity the boiler can take too...

You actually don't. If the human players are attentive, the capacity should give you no issue.

The boiler handles 5 balls per second but that doesn't stop you from firing more than 5 balls per second in. They process the balls inside at that speed.
