What were some of the popular mods to this back in the day?

Novak! I couldn't afford one. Only the rich kids had novaks. I ran my original Rc10 with the analog esc that it came with. Neon wheels were really cool back then and neon receiver antennas had just come out. Trinity motors were the cream of the crop. If you were super cool you had a soldered together battery pack with yellow batteries (I don't remember the brand). 15 minute chargers that made your battery feel like it was cooking.

Depending on how old it is, the Stealth Transmission was a big one. The one I just got has all Tekin electronics and a Trinity RC2095 Midnight Motor. (I'm surprised actually that most of these parts still cost around the same amount they did back then) Back when I first Owned this I actually had similar electrics and although it wasn't as suave as my RC10T3 it was still great for running around a park or ball field.

Wheels and tires, steering bell crank, tie-rods, motors, gearing ratio and pitch, universal joint driveshafts, nerf wing, heat sink motor plate, a-arms, bodies, shocks, bearings, drilled lightening holes, as well as dying the white nylon parts a different color. Oh and 7-cell batteries and electronic speed controllers. Sometimes even a different chassis altogether, like a sprint car conversion. I made all of these mods to mine, anyways. 👍

Lunsford titanium turnbuckles & MIP CVD's were up there with Novak esc's. CVD's only became/were standard on the world's car.

@@hmbiii9974 if it has black composite arms, it already had the stealth tranny. Stealth became standard on all kits around 92, black composite arms in 94

Re: the black suspension arms, AE stopped using white nylon arms in 1994, and switched to black composite in all their kits. The kit here is the entry level RC10CE kit, I had one in 1995. The team car kits used black anodized chassis and Grey hard anodized shocks.

Just picked up an RC10T off Craig's List for $130 with Vintage Futaba Magnum and Tekin Electronics and a bunch of extras. Pretty Jazzed to have replaced one of my College faves! Will be building an auto driver Arduino feature into it for fun. Cleaned it up a bit and tested the Electrics and whoosh it Kicks up pretty fast!

I remember when my buddy came back from California after the Summer in 1985 or 86 and he had a Team Associated RC10. I was driving my Tamiya Frog at the time that I got in 84 and the suspension and handling of the RC10 just blew the Frog away. And that was the first time I saw an aluminum chassis. Plus the speed controller was a mechanical sweep type that actually had variable speeds and not the 3 step I was used to from Tamiya at the time. Very state of the art in the mid 1980's. Funny enough though I stayed with Tamiya's because I was used to them and the hobby shops stocked mainly Tamiya's. The RC10 was very exotic in Toronto at that time....hahahaha.😅

Man prices have skyrocketed, I picked up one for 350 but it’s a 92 all white plastic car and it’s got very few scratches. I put a novak esc and receiver, and it’s got a reedy mr O motor, it’s a great car though.

They are just rc cars. Value or not, they are not as expensive to acquire or upgrade unlike real scale cars. Don’t get me wrong. I had a gold pan RC10 back in the days, but now I’m into the full scale cars. I drive a 95’ rx7 and daily a 06’ rx8 and I gotta tell you RC’s don’t compare to the maintenance cost, but I can tell you it’s very fun to drive and the looks you get on the road and the complements you get it’s awesome!

$60 is an amazing deal for a gold pan with a stealth trans. Normally a goldpan with a stealth trans is more like $200+ on ebay - the old 6 gear non stealth trans sucked ass. Yes, the "cadillac" in good shape were a lot of $$$. I remember hearing of ppl at races getting into fights and whipping each other in the face with those long ass remote antennas🤣

The 6 gear trannies are just fine, especially with bearings. There's a tiny mod that helps, though, otherwise they are a little tight until the gears are worn in.

Can anyone help me find spare parts for an original rc10? Spare transmission gears and arms would be awesome... without paying someone’s insane 10x eBay pricing

They still make parts for it. Bell crank steering, anodized aluminum, or carbon fiber shock towers, aluminum, or carbon fiber A arms. You can even get aluminum gears for the stealth transmission.

I love how everybody says how much these things are worth & not to get rid of them. I have a pile of them in my attic and I cannot sell them to anybody.
