I think the last scene quite literally describes their life. Just the initials of a time when they were young and innocent and free and they carved it into the wood of the car so they could always look back and see happy times but it’s scarred and marred with scratches of evil unknown, blood and broken glass and just holy shit.

fan theory about Crowley I think when Sam was doing the trials he partially cured Crowley making him more human. and he sacrificed himself so easily because he lost his son and his mom. Crowley loved his mom too you could tell

What they'll be remembered as are heroes. Crazy and scary heroes that could have walked away but didn't. Because who else would have come along and done what they did? Sure there would have been people that tried, but all in all, the Winchester brothers were the ones who came and saved the world. Time and time again. They won't be written about in normal history books, but they do have the people they saved to tell their stories, They have Chuck's books, and they have their research to add to the bunker. The next generation of hunters will know their names, and so will the monsters they hunt. They will become immortals in their own rights. They will never be forgotten.

This show manages to be epic without being impersonal. The characters are faced with difficult decisions and every action they take has massive consequences- for the world and for their relationships with their friends and the people they love. I really freaking love this show... Btw- that final image with that final lyric was perfect. The boys are going to live on forever as legends- but that's not necessarily a good thing. Many already remember them because they "destroyed the world"...
