Watching this for billionth time while "drunk and depressed as Dean on a bad day, combined with Sam on a "You're Short" day, AND Cas on a "I found a liquor store and I drank it " day is not the best idea even if I know have to cry to cope...their childhoods tear my soul apart AND also makes me wish I could punch John Winchester in the face.

O no not John Winchester he did the best he could do especially with the card's he was dealt, he raised them with his only wish being to keep them safe

@@anniceportland John was redeemed when he returned briefly and apologized. But his main focus wasn't about keeping his sons safe. He focused on keeping SAM safe and above all on getting revenge for Mary's death. Yeah he did the best he could for a dad who jumped into the Hunting game and dragged his kids into it. John loved his kids, but instead of showing them that, he raised em up in a militant and vagabond manner that seriously fucked them both up. Sam left because he could see that his upbringing was abnormal but also wrong. Dean had wasn't as lucky and suffered heavily by trying his to please his Dad and protect Sam. And honestly if someone like myself would've caught John with a left hook and called him out on his bullshit when the boys were young they'd at least have a lot more emotional stability. Hell, if Mary was brought back when the boys were young and found her boys alone, Dean making sure Sam was safe and fed, cleaning a few weapons or reading lore, she would have kicked John's ass across the entire town and back again. And trust me I have a few choice words about her fuckery too.

Technically John didn't drag his kids into it. Chuck, The angels and the demons did when the plans/writing began. I think this is forgotten too much. None of the characters had a choice, Chuck was writing, the demons fed Sam blood, the angels were waiting for the seals. Even Dean and Sam played their roles until they realized they had roles. John being a stay at home father would not have made anything better, the brothers would have been too soft and did what adam did and said yes to the angels eventually. If it wasnt for John there would be no Supernatural story. Sam had demons playing with his life, hes whole life, and when he went off to uni, they killed Jess to keep him focused. This focused hate on John is such a tunnel vision focus and factoring nothing we have learned over the seasons. John was a pawn just like Dean and Sam was. Now Mary on the other hand unknowingly started it all. She made the deal which caused Sam to have demon blood fed to him, she disturbed the demon which killed her(not that it was her fault) without mary igniting it, nothing would of have happened since john would have been dead and no Sam and Dean). John watched his wife burn on a ceiling - nothing at all natural and i doubt anyone would go on their way and ignore the supernatural way she died, they'd want answers and get the demon off the earth. And frankly, that world can not be compared to our world, we dont have demons and monsters so no one actually knows how they would react in the thick of all that. Its an entirely different world. Sam left because he was the "rebellious son" to parallel Lucifer, Dean remained faithful because he was meant to parallel Micheal. That was made very clear time and time again, Gabriel pointed it out very clearly. Sam wanted a normal life, which he had no chance of because of Chucks plans. And john apologised to Dean in season 2 episode 1 and told him he was proud of him. He apologised ti Sam in Dead Mans blood in a very moving moment. He apologised again in season 14. As for john raising them with him a drill sergent, he was in the navy, he would have fell back into his training, he recognized this error and spoke to Sam about it on season 1, of his regrets, the same with Dean in season 2. John didnt make a choice to be that way, he fell back on training when faced with a dangerous enemy. Everyone loves crowley, who admitted he beat Gavin, starved him, left him practically homeless and worked him harder than the horses, why? Because noone is invested in Gavin? A child is a child, and Crowley was Abusive. I love Crowley myself, so i am simply pointing this out for the hypocrisy rather than anything else. John never starved, beat or left his kids homeless, before his world was turned upside down with the revelation of demons and monsters he was simply an ex-marine mechanic who lived an ordinary life. Crowley's excuse was that he had no role models (neither did john on the side of father figures as Henry disappeared into the future, leaving John with no father figure role model). Note: Mary John, Sam and Dean all had parts to play and none of them are the blame. The angels, the demons and Chuck are the ones to blame. They were manipulated by supernatural forces from before any of them were even conceived and continued having pressure trigger points placed throughout their lives. The whole purpose of season 15 was for Sam and Dean to fight to gain their own lives and free will that they never had due to their whole lives being just a story by Chuck.
