💥RACE FINISH💥
Team Freedom Rower🇿🇦!
Sunday 28th January at 04:18 local time, Peet Botma crossed the finish line in English Harbour, Antigua after 45 days, 22 hours & 57 minutes.🏁
Despite a middle of the night (or early morning!) arrival, many people gathered at the Dockyard, including Peet’s family. They, too, experienced a challenging journey themselves coming from South Africa via several airports just in time to witness the incredible moment when Peet lit up the flares at the finish line and later when he took his first steps on land. Accompanied by big cheers and South African music delivered from one of the yachts, Peet was blown away by the amount of people cheering him in. ☺️
Peet heard about the race some ten years ago and a seed was planted. He dreamt that he would one day join the race. Now, 3,000 miles later, what Peet once thought was impossible, something he thought not brave enough to do became a reality. Proving once again what this race is all about. What we, as human beings, are capable of. A true testament that everything is possible if you want it enough.
About his Atlantic experience Peet said, “It’s incredible. It’s been a dream for so long, that’s sort of being realised today and it was very, very hard at times out there. I think this race, this row, this ocean really can take you to places physically, mentally, emotionally where you have never been before. When you think you were there yesterday, it just takes you there again tomorrow and on to a next level. I’m very happy, very satisfied, happy with the row…thank you.”🙏
