How does the online multiplayer work and if this is team-based what happens when your teammates just don't play?

I know how to get your own teams picked and sadly it’s randomize so you have a chance if you sonic shadow or silver you can get all three on one team or get Amy or Metal Sonic on your team or you have a chance to get all three of the same characters on a team, I have played before and I got All Of Team Sonic And Team Dark on a team together. All I’m saying is that it’s random. And also, *YOU HAD TEAM ULTIMATE WHY DIDNT YOU USE IT?*
