Back in the day, Team USA had other countries beat before the game started. Now the gap has closed, and everybody wants a piece of them. Beating the Americans is the biggest scalp in international basketball, and its good for the Americans too. They need to be on top of their games, because they would never hear the end of it if they lose. Just ask the 2004 team.

Honestly I love Joel I’m not an Embiid hater, I thought him playing with one eye and one leg showed he didn’t just want to go out and say “I was injured.” But him making an excuse for Team USA and mentioning LeBron not being the same LeBron from years ago, like duh. We all know that but number two, he’s somehow consistently the best player still in closing out, in the clutch and he is still LEBRON JAMES and showed it yet again. Embiid isn’t doing more than LeBron and when AD comes into the games you can immediately tell he’s just better in every way, especially on defense. His comments and his play in the Olympics made me think to myself maybe this is why he doesn’t win when it counts. Like truly no hate, but as we all know some players are just freaks of nature and want it more and some don’t. Embiid might just not have that in him.

This game shouldve been a wake up call. We may have the most skilled, all around best basketball players assembled into one team of maybe all time, but pure passion and determination put us to the brink. South Sudan isn't some insanely skilled team, but they wanted to win more. The USA cannot ride on their skill alone anymore, and if they don't learn from this game, they will likely be the most upsetting USA team of all time by a long shot. Also props to Lebron for softening the blow of this embarrasment of a performance, the clowning of this team and the NBA would've been even more ridiculous if this went down as a loss.

I’m a Philly fan and like Embiid. I know what he meant with the comments, but he’s not lighting it up right now either. Lebron is clearly the leader of the team and guys will defer to him when it gets tight. He’s earned that. The only other guy I want taking the ball would be Curry, that’s it. Despite what the team may say, they don’t fully respect their opponents. They know they have the most talent at any given time, and since each player has been the man throughout their careers they don’t really think they can lose. Couple that mentality with a poor shooting night, and you get what we saw versus South Sudan. If not for the additions of high effort, defensive monsters that can also score (Holiday, Adebayo, White) this team would really struggle to medal, let alone win gold.

People like Derrick white and tyrese are essential for basic playmaking. Not everybody can score all the time! Sometimes you need somebody that’s gonna get the stars going by setting them up

The team actually did better when LeBron was on the bench. The bench team closed the gap while the gap was bigger when LeBron was on the court.

Wait, Joel is pointing a finger and he cannot make simple put in at the rim. What has he won? This is his chance to win something is his career and taste victory. Shut up Joel and go to work and learn from greatness around you. These old guys will refuse to lose. Maybe you can learn something.

This is my starting five for the USA to be effective. Steph Jrue Lebron KD AD I put AD over Embiid just because AD has just been so good defensively. He can switch matchups, unlike Embiid. He's quick, agile, and a rim protector. Embiid has been a target for being slow and hinders the defense for he would do the drop coverage on a pick and roll, where other teams could exploit in pull up 3s. I also put Holiday on the starting for his perimeter defense. On the 3rd qtr against South Sudan, his defense was the game changer that led USA to take the lead at the end of the qtr. It just balances out, offense and defense. Since their main problem right now is their defense on their starting five. Lack of box out, lack of ball pressure and quick rotations. Second unit would be Ant Booker Tatum Bam Embiid Again, Ant and Bam as their Jrue and AD. And the Tatum and Embiid can also provide some defense. But all of them can do the offense also. Tyrese and White will provide backup. Tyrese on offense, White on defense.
