Imagine knowing that once your father died you were the last person left on the planet keeping a thousands of years old culture alive. The weight of that must have been very heavy on Tenzin prior to him meeting Korra, but thanks to her actions at the end of Season 2 dozens of people who (if this fan theory is true) are descendants of Airbenders who survived the attack by the Fire Nation 150 years ago regained Airbending abilities, Tenzin became the leader of the Air Nation that Aang hoped he would be.

I can see Katara, Sokka and Aang in Tenzin's personality. Katara shares some comedic sarcastic commentary despite what some people think especially when he says "hilarious...", it is that she saw her mother's scorched body that made her more serious and motherly.
