Definitely a distinct period for him in that he was allowed to show more variety in his characterizations. After And Justice For All and, especially, Scarface, he kind of became a "force of nature" actor....in that a booming personality takes over many of his roles.....similar thing happened to Jack Nicholson.

@gregoryent
@gregoryent 3 ай бұрын
@@franklindurang Conan loves to talk and is very good at making conversation, but you'll notice that the more talkative guests he always lets speak. Other late night hosts do not understand that not all celebrities are cornucopias of interesting platitudes and intriguing stories. Some are boring, normal people who happen to be extremely good at acting/singing etc. Conan DOES understand this and that is why he is the best late night host. He can carry an interview on his back alone with good jokes, light hearted conversation, and it often warms up shyer celebs.

Everyone is happy to see Conan and Al Pacino make each other laugh. But as someone who's listened to Matt Gourley's I Was There Too podcast. I can imagine him just vibrating in his seat getting to be on a podcast with Al Pacino.

Another actor the studio suggested for Michael Corleone was Ryan O'Neal. Seriously? Thank goodness Mr. Coppola stood his ground.

That was great to see Conan making him laugh so hard! These are great stories! Al Pacino has always praised and revered John Cazale! He said he learned so much from him!

I had the good fortune to have worked with him on a film & he was very nice & professional. One of our greats.

I met him and Beverly D’Angelo after we were the last to leave the restaurant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was filming the Insider at the time. Earlier I had a nice conversation at bar with Russell Crowe. My girlfriend at the time knew I had the good fortune to run into a celebrities. Anyway, she egged me on to approach which I did… I said good evening Mr. Pacino and Ms. D’Angelo. I said to Al I have a great story about us. He stopped and said to we know each other? I said know. He said, well, tell me this story. At the time, I was barely 40. We ended talking for a half hour in the parking lot. He and Beverly could not have been nicer and wanted to know how Chilean went from Chile to New York to Mississippi

I didn't expect to see Al enjoying himself so much, as much as any of Conan's old SNL friends.

I haven’t read any comments here, so I don’t know whether this has been said already. But for those of you who aren’t experienced with his seventies films, seeing Dog Day Afternoon should be a priority. The late, great director of that film said that he’d never witnessed a greater acting performance. Long before I ever knew that he thought that I’d already reached the place in my long, film-watching history that there was no greater performance I’d ever seen. It’s nothing short of a tour de force.
