I know it's been said a million times, but Sona is such a talent on her own merit, and Conan obviously saw a kindred spirit when she interviewed to work for him. Smart, sharp, sarcastic, funny, but seemingly with a great depth of kindness as well if you get past all the sarcasm. It makes me happy to see :)

I LOVED CWB. Conan is so great at making sure that HE is the butt of the joke & not the culture and people. I also really like that in between the jokes we do get to learn a bit about the culture of where he's visiting. Conan interacting with non-famous people is always a joy because he is so quick on his feet & he actually listens to the people he is talking with . I am thrilled that it is coming back! ❤❤

Sona is funnily enough, a prime example of how simply getting along with your boss trumps any sort of hard work. I had no idea she wasn't even Conan's assistant anymore, but she has done an excellent job of capitalising on her connection to Conan
@shubhamchaudhari6884 Жыл бұрын
But Conan is a character who will be open to that sort of a dynamic. I think that's rare.
@AndorranStairway Жыл бұрын
@@shubhamchaudhari6884 exactly. Sona is very lucky to have found Conan, but Conan is kinda lucky to have Sona as well. I highly doubt Conan would've wanted a typical dutiful assistant. He is at his best when he has someone around him who finds him funny and laughs at his jokes; and Sona is that perfect person because she laughs pretty easily and heartily. She's also free of pretense, which I've no doubt is something Conan loves considering he made a career out of interviewing *actors* .

I know the main topic is about the Armenia remote but I just wanted to say I’m super excited to hear the podcast will be focusing on the traveling Conan specials. The one in particular that I absolutely love is the Mexico one. It happened in response to the horrible Trump comments and it was so cathartic watching someone with little personal connection to the country like Conan say “wait, sorry but no!” And defend it the best way he knew how. I’ll forever be grateful to him for that.

The "Conan in Armenia" episode is one of the best TV I've ever watched. I didn't even know about the Armenian Genocide before watching that episode. I'm hoping that Conan will also feature The Philippines and the atrocities committed by the Marcos regime since there's a huge push by the Marcoses to "move on" and ignore that part of our history

The personal assistant relationship is unique and can be very powerful. I had an employee who was acting as my personal assistant and it was time to get her business cards to do some of the official stuff that needed to be done. I asked her what title she wanted. Titles cost nothing so it's a cheap and easy way to make your employee happy. She said personal assistant and I was shocked. I asked her if she wanted to be a manager, lead such and such, and others and she said no. She thought being a personal assistant was cool. She was my personal assistant for many years and it was fantastic. If you ever make it to that situation in life I highly recommend it if possible. They need to be hyper competent of course.

I find a strange resonance with Sona's Armenia episode as someone who is part of a different diaspora - the Estonian diaspora - since we too were under Soviet occupation (in fact that's why my family fled the country in the first place - it was a bit of a genocide at the time with people being sent by train to Siberia to be worked to death in gulags) - who as an adult went to the homeland of my people, met long-lost relatives there, and how profoundly emotional it was for me. People in the U.S. or Canada or wherever who have had their family there for many generations on all sides, whose family came over 300 or 400 years ago, I don't think they can ever GET that - not really - not in the way it is for us because for us, that's 20th century - that's relatively recent history - recent enough that we grew up with first-hand accounts from beloved family members of the war and fleeing and all of that, grew up with the culture and everything - so I get a lot of Americans who seem perplexed why I'd identify so strongly with Estonia - by the way I'm a dual citizen so it's also my nationality and I can speak the language - and they just can't understand that to me, it's an intensely important thing because the land and the culture ARE my connection to my family who are no longer with us, and form a core part of my identity even if I grew up mainly in the U.S. - you really don't know how much of a gut punch it IS to you until you are there, walking the same cobblestone streets your great, great, great, great, great GREAT grandparents did CENTURIES ago, attending song and dance festivals that would have been commonplace when your family last fled the place, and to feel this sense that you are AT LAST truly among your people - you just cannot explain that to someone in words. You have to experience it for yourself, and I feel like a lot of Americans have so completely lost touch with their heritage that such things are mystifying to them. I think EVERYONE should get in touch with who their people are and return to the homeland of their people at least once in their lives - it will fundamentally reshape your perception of your place in the world and what it all means. I, for one, never - even as a child- identified as "American" because that held no personal meaning to me- no connection to people and times past, to distant ancestors through the mists of time - "American" just JUST a nationality, after all, while it's different for other parts of the world.
