I'll never really enjoy colbert as a talk show host in his normal self as when he was a character in all those years in his first show. With himself, as talk show host he doesn't compete for jokes. As the character he does. Jimmy, Conan, and Seth, are an natural comedy competitors. Colbert is at his best if it's improv. Talk show is prestige but he never became who he wanted to become, a Parry to parry comedy competitor. Sitting talking to people isn't how he trained his mind to make comedy. Don't know why he went that way with his life. Same for Fallon.
