matt gourley is like the most casually hilarious person ever. its like he's a super unfunny guy but can stop time, so spends 2 hrs researching the funniest comment, restarts time, and executes. he even has this little smile like he knows this one is gonna be hilarious because he has in actuality been preparing it for hours

His episodes of the Dead Authors Society with Paul F Tompkins are some of the absolute best improv in-character comedy you'll ever hear. His Ian Flemming(creator of james bond) is so super deep because of his knowledge, then his Carl Sagan is just a home run in every way imaginable. Matt Gourley is worth 50 anvils, easy.

When you're a first time parent, that first month floundering and trying to figure things out... Those are precious memories. It's great that family want to come in and help but I feel they should have asked. Some parents want to have a few precious weeks alone with their newborn before family get involved.

Don't worry, Matt, you're not alone. I too know "baba" as a word for "bottle." Something that weirded me out in recent years was people calling a pacifier a "binky." To me, "binky" is more of a word for a security blanket, like Linus used to take everywhere in Peanuts cartoons. "Binky" seemed like a variation of "blankey." Also, I'm hearing "mamas" a lot lately as a nickname for a baby, which I would think would be confusing for the child, because the mother should be called "Mama." 🤔

The words for mom in almost all languages are some variation of "mama," "dada," "tata," "baba" etc. because those are the first cohesive words made of the easiest to pronounce sounds babies first speak, and so the role of the person that holds the baby most (and gets these proto-words blabbered at them the most) tends to be named that. So, it makes sense in the modern era the unused ones in a language (baba in English, in this case) could end up being used to mean bottle instead. I learned that from Slate's Silicon Valley, episode 116 "Did Cavebabies Say Mama and Papa?" by John McWhorter if anyone's interested
