Knowing there are rocks there and knowing the exact moment they're about to fall are completely different things. The fact that people are using the fact that he saw the boulders as an excuse to say it wasn't impressive is frankly very narrow. He still heard the sound of them starting to move, and immediately put the two together and got out of the way in a very short period of time. Some people may expect that to activate do to an event. like pulling a string, not necessarily due to a countdown of upon reaching certain words in the note. He was aware of the boulders, yes, however he still reacted very quickly to an unpredictable timing. I took his statement as "how did you know it was about to fall?" and not "how did you know they were there?".
