If only doing 5 lbs and needing only 2 bottles of fire brine, do you reduce all other ingredients to half?
@swagner18313 жыл бұрын
I did this cure and the first batch came out great. Did exactly what Duane recommend as far as re adding dry ingredients and actually used slightly less salt and sodium sulfite & ended up burning 12lbs of eggs. So just a warning, if you decide to use this for a second batch, use considerably less salt/ sugar / sodium sulfite.

would sodium metabisulfite work in place of sodium sulfite Duane? Thank you

Should I soak the eggs again after butterflying the skeins?
@lupemartin88393 жыл бұрын
I don't soak them again. I butterfly them open and add more powder krill and allow that to dry on the skeins.

Great info 👍...quick question, what are your thoughts on cutting the cured eggs into the pieces you want and putting them in borax? I love the borax just for easy use. Your thoughts?

Can you add the sulfite after you cure the eggs? It seems like it would be best to do it like u did, but I recently cured 2 skins of eggs and just sprinkled the sulfite over the eggs like I do the cure, but not as much. I did a light coating and noticed it made the skin weak as u mentioned. How much does it take to make the eggs milk?
@TheDinglin5 жыл бұрын
Jeff, you can add a light dusting of Sodium Sulfite to cured eggs. However you must be careful to not add too much. If I ever do this, I sprinkle it on the eggs I know that I plan to fish within the hour. If I need to do more, I sprinkle on another skein and cut it as I fish it. This prevents me from adding Sodium Sulfite to eggs that I do not fish. Try to prevent sprinkling Sulfites onto eggs that you plan to place back in the fridge or freeze. You will not be happy with the gooey mess it creates. Best case scenario is to add it in when you cure your eggs, this will maximize the results. Hope this helps.

Well i think the blood may be a determinant factor in the quality of frozen eggs. Everything else seems fine. They look really pretty and fish pretty well but it will all come down to smell because of the blood.... i am not very hopeful. Your egg looks just as bloody as mine did though...

I’ve caught so many fish on old stink eggs and can even just add some krill.. I’ve even caught a lot of fish on old popped eggs where it’s mostly just cured skein. When everyone else is struggling with fresh eggs. Pautzke will always catch.

If you plan it right, you could drop in prawns after the eggs came out.
