I LOVE the design/look of these things :D I just love that industrial look it has.

It is very futuristic and stylish. I have to admit that was what swayed me to buy one.

It is a great looking heat-sink though... : )

Interesting light, I wonder how they would work as photographic lamps? The Ebay link in the description is dead but I searched for "LED high bay factory light" and there is a good selection of designs, including some with E27 fitting that would fit my existing lighting stands. There are 100W lights for under £20 each. I think they would be worth trying, they would be a lot less fragile than the big 135W CFL that I have been using.

That is an amazing heatsink, would be a great show piece of an overclocked PC

Clive, Have you had any luck with LED replacement for The Spiral CFL Bulbs for house use? I want to start replacing all my CFLs with LED based and doing some research now... I use 75Watt equivalent CFLs now... that mount in my recessed lamp holders in my ceiling.
@bigclivedotcom10 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the light levels required. Although it helps that your exiting CFL's are actually in recessed lights, since they lose a lot of their output that way. It might be worth buying a few random LED lamps and trying them. I have a recessed light in my bathroom that was hideously inefficient with a CFL but puts out more light (instantly) with a much lower power GU10 style directional lamp. I used an adaptor that also moves the lamp much closer to the lights front.
@360MIX10 жыл бұрын
bigclivedotcom Thank you for the tip on the adapter I did not think of that... I use the standard screw in base E27 and the recessed opening are approx 5 1/2 inches with a straight reflector. (I just found the adapters you are talking about on ebay... and going to do what you suggested and try some LED lamps along with the adapter to bring them closer to the opening... thanks clive!!!)

it would make a good "uber-flashlight" if you attached it to a 12 to 30 volt boost converter and a car battery :)
@DigBipper1888 жыл бұрын
Alternatively you could do what I did and use Li-Ion batteries... I get just over an hour using 12 2500mAH cells from laptop batteries in a 6S2P config on a 50w LED, and that's with an auxiliary 12v supply for a 5w side lamp and cooling fans.

I didnt know such things existed, gives me hope, i hope to soon replace 6x 6ft florescent fittings that are 30 years old and getting temperamental with something LED but right now its either way too expensive or not bright enough, as for that lamp, is a heatsink that large really needed?
@bigclivedotcom10 жыл бұрын
If the ceiling isn't too high, consider some generic LED floodlights, with some on the ceiling and some under benches.
@jusb106610 жыл бұрын
bigclivedotcom yes the ceiling is about 7-8 feet, i have indeed looked at the floodlights for them, im undecided as yet, for the benches i already have them lit with the 10w ones, 2 per bench does a decent job ( well they are 5w really as it turns out), i looked at the led replacement type t8's but they are expensive and its a lazy way to do it, panels are too expensive too, maybe it will be the 50w floods in the end

Perhaps the earth screw was loose because it was also securing the ballast at one end?
@bigclivedotcom10 жыл бұрын
I checked that, but the driver would have had to have been secured at two ends. There was no sign it had been screwed down at all.

Im looking for new lights for my garage/shop and I think some of these are the ticket. Do you think they would be usable if they were about 15ft off the floor?
@bigclivedotcom8 жыл бұрын
+Clyne Griffon I tend to recommend using some ceiling lights to provide low level general illumination, and then bench lights and portable lights for getting more light where you are working. The generic LED floodlights will be much easier to source than these high bay lights. Avoid the super high power LED lights like 100W. They fail quickly.

I've used Ali express once, 3 items on one order and they were all defective and or fake. This was before they re did their site to look like the other popular Chinese discount sites. Did you swap out the LED for a warm white when you got one?
@bigclivedotcom9 жыл бұрын
Green Silver I just kept the cold white in that one, since I don't have anywhere actually high enough to hang it properly.
@DigitalYojimbo9 жыл бұрын
Yes aliexpress seems quite unreliable, I've had things delivered broken or not even delivered at all.

Where LEDs are involved, the bigger the heatsink the better.

The finish on that heatsink looked pretty rough to me. And the thermal design? Lousy at best. Where is the airflow? I'll bet that the difficulty you had with that many screws was due to the thing being assembled with a power screwdriver to speed things up.

so why do we not get to see the heat dissipation, you say you might just do that (switch it on and just let it sit for a while to get a chance to observe how good the heat sink is doing) and then you cut the video off after saying that, the end
