Enjoyed that job today, watching the Leyland cypress taken down, the bees nest busted open, and the ashes that started the fire going. Fun to watch, and you avoided any wasp stings. All good. Not good to see the grader hang up. But if not one thing, then another. Keeps you on your toes. Great machine and hard to get along without it.

Wow, getting those cypress trees down did open that area up a lot. After the storm and the amount of rain that fell, it's still amazing that the ashes were still red hot. This is looking nicer & nicer and the fact that you had a machine breakdown but you were able to continue shows how much you can make those tools work for you in whatever you want them to do. Great job and thanks for sharing with us.

Leyland cypress are good for trimmed hedges (limited to a specific height and width) if in an area that doesn't have the rampant disease issues, but left to grow in their somewhat unnatural form (they are a cross between a Monterey Cypress {native to central California coast} and an Alaskan Cedar) they tend to be to much tree for their root ball. This cross originally occurred (accidentally) in England in 1888. There are many sheared hedges using this plant in England, in the states folks seem to just plant them and let them grow, a short term solution that often requires removal at some point in the future.

Yes, they grow fast and that’s the attraction because they serve as a visual shield (some like them for wind break). But as Chris noted, they have a reputation for breaking and even toppling or tipping over as they mature. Another thing that can happen is a small fire can hit one and if they are in a line, it is a hard to stop…they have like a resin in the greenery and that burns up in a hot flash if there’s significant heat. No drying needed.
